Which, of course, is why rightwing billionaires and the Republicans they own have been working so hard in the decades since the Reagan Revolution to break our government.

They
want a series of terrible crises. And if they don’t happen organically, rightwingers are more than happy to create them, as we saw yesterday when Republicans in the House of Representatives refused to do anything about our southern border or to fund aid to Ukraine and the Palestinians.

Back before the Reagan Revolution — when things were working well, a third of America had a good union job, our schools were brand-new and well supplied and staffed, college was free, healthcare was inexpensive, and the biggest challenge America had was to put a man on the moon and bring him safely home — there was little demand for a dictator in this country.

Sure, women, Blacks, and queer people were demanding rights and their fair slice of the pie, but they wanted part of a pie that was already working (to mangle a metaphor). For the majority of white Americans to adopt a strongman authoritarian, first the country had to be broken and broken badly.

Republicans and their billionaire donors have been working on this project for decades.

It was originally proposed in a memo by Lewis Powell in 1971, the year before Nixon put him on the Supreme Court and he authored the decision legalizing corporate bribery of politicians.

Now the GOP and their billionaire backers are more than 40 years into their project:

The short answer is yes. And just reiterate from the Powell Doctrine. Nicotine is not an addicting substance, and there is no evidence that smoking is harmful.

Of course, the invasion at the border (an actual crisis) by the Biden administration does not constitute a crisis, right?
What world are you living in, skewed?

Nice bait thread, by the way.

I think they had given up on waiting for a pugilistic, authoritarian strong man.

So then Trump -- a flamboyant, hypersensitive NY City billionaire metrosexual sporting a Flock of Seagulls hairdo and more makeup than his wife -- comes prancing in saying everything they want to hear. They ignore the con man's glaring deficiencies and install him as the strongman they've always craved.

This is a fuckin' madness.

There was a time when a strong president who put America first was what we wanted. Today's sissy left that doesn't even know how to define a "woman" seems to want a giggly empty headed V.P. and a senile old man.

if anything at the border were a "crisis"{ why would trump want NOT to fix it?

No, that was the demofascist plan. Trump is trying to prevent your plan from succeeding.

GOP have their dream situation right now. Razer thin House majority and a Dem president. Perhaps this is how the donors for both sides prefer it as well. This allows them to never truly be leaders and get anything done while Dems enact their policies while America becomes a Middle Power.

Oh my, the 2016 election night of tears did a number on you! :abgg2q.jpg:

Why not fix it, then? Letting 5000 illegals a day in does not constitute a fix.
Any judicial challenges must go through the Washington DC Circuit court?
Why does the author of the Bill says it doesn't stop the invasion?

If Biden wanted to fix the border, why not implement the laws that are now in place?

It's a good thread. You are right that the border is a crisis, yet the GOP won't help fix it.

So you measure it by the lowest common denominator. We need our parties to do better, Meiser.
I want the politicians to serve their constituents and not their party, John.
The president right now could close the border to illegals if he was inclined to do that.
He's not, so 'We the People' are paying the price for that.
The Bill falls far short from doing the purpose it was intended to....why?
