USA Ranks 27th in Social Justice

I love that the RWers think that this is something to be proud of...

I came into this thread intending to make a joke about how the Right would think this was good thing, and got pre-empted by reality.

We are aware of the real theme...

Whats yours is mine and whats mine is mine.

Yawn.....................

Question for you:

Would you eliminate public education for those who can't afford to pay for their share of it?

"A foundation in Germany has analyzed the social justice records of all 31 members of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), ranking each nation in such categories as health care, income inequality, pre-school education, and child poverty.

"The overall performance by the United States — which boasts of being an egalitarian society — outranks only Greece, Chile, Mexico, and Turkey.

"Actually, three of those countries performed better than ours in the education of pre-schoolers, and Greece did better than the United States on the prevention of poverty."

Another example of the economic and political inequality built into this system that won't change by "choosing" between Mitt and Mutt next November.

And yet none of those countries has the racial and ethnic makeup of our country. They don't have to deal with tens of millions of illegal immigrants, not to mention legal immigrants (who are usually very poor), nor do they have very large black populations.

But hey, if things are so great in all these other countries then people can start moving there. But my guess is, this is more of an attempt to cause phoney outrage in order to push a socialist agenda.

So, because the US has to "deal with" black people, we have less social justice?

My comment is based on my observation of 'social justice' in action. It remains my view, despite your half assed attempts to justify it.
Progressive Insurance hates Americas founders eh CG?
Got jack shit to do with it.

This country was founded on certain principles (please refer to the Constitution). I don't give a rat's ass where we are in any international comparison.... We are not comparable to other nations - because they do not live by our Constitution. Why do we have to measure up to someone else's standard?

Fuck 'em. We are who we are. This is the United States of America, land of the free, home of the brave. End of.

Only losers say rank doesn't matter. I'm sure you've never said the US is #1 or ever placed in a competition.

Ahhhhh, the term 'social justice.' When I hear a left-winger start with the 'social justice' crap, I instinctively reach for my wallet and want to lock and bar the doors to the house. I just absolutely KNOW that someone is going to try and tell me that I have to do this or that or give up this or that in the name of 'social justice.' Usually, it's something guaranteed in the constitution, like the right to bear arms. You know, we can't have regular people running around with weapons because well, it's not just right in the name of social justice.

A group of people in Germany have decided that we rank way down there on social justice? You know, I have to just really tell you that I couldn't give a crap less about a group of people in Germany telling me that we do not measure up to their standards.

I realize that they have no clue what it is to be an American. I get it. But when even "Americans" want to disregard our history, our values, and our founding then I start to get a little tired. What planet are you living on? Have you ever been to Europe, more specifically to Germany? I love it there. Been there at the invitation of the USAF and I've traveled there on vacation several times. Beautiful people and beautiful country. I was very, very impressed. Everyone is so nice and it's so clean. They tell you and you go here. They tell you something else and you go there. Everyone is so polite and they do exactly what they are told. But after a month, I was absolutely ESTATIC when I walked by that sign that said, "Welcome to the United States of America."

I was asked once by some Belgians why it is that the United States acts like it is so "special"? I was told that Americans act like they are above everyone else. I explained to them that it comes from our history, the way we view ourselves and our form of government. I explained to them that in America the individual is supreme. We believe that the creator has bestowed individual rights and that governments cannot alter them or remove them. As a result of this, we do not stand in line well. I explained to them that in America, if someone in charge told a group that they had to do this, you could count on the fact that automatically about 10% of the group would fight you tooth and nail NOT to do it. Even if you got no arguements, there would be some who just wouldn't do it. It's part of the way we are. Naturally, they didn't think that it was very condusive to an orderly society. I told them that they are right, we're not very 'orderly'. I told them about how Bill Clinton banned large magazines for weapons and almost immediately I knew guys who were manufacturing them in their tool sheds. There wasn't a decrease in their availablity, you could go to gun shows and buy them. These guys felt that the federal government couldn't tell them what to do. America is disorderly, loud, chaotic and demanding.

I wouldn't want it any other way.

In other words, you support an entitlement complex.

If you define "social justice" as income inequality as these people do, then yes. We have a very large African-American population, which lives at an average lower income level than the rest of the country. These other countries do not have that.

These other countries also tax their richest citizens and corporations instead of borrowing from them, unlike the USA. The USA is the richest country in history and it has never been richer; maybe you can explain why we sit at the bottom of a list of education, health care and poverty, too much capitalism?

When does the left puff their chest out for the 40% single parent rate? Add the marriage penalty the left is so eager to bring back.

Hmmm.................................

Social justice, I know as democrats lets make a law that puts all retirement money into the general fund. We will still call it SS.

Seems the left is the heart of the problem

Really? Who on the "left" is "putting out their chests" :)confused:) for the rate of single parents?

What are you blathering about regarding Social Security?

MYTHS AND MISINFORMATION ABOUT SOCIAL SECURITY

That the money goes to the general fund, that there is not one red dime in the fund. That if the government doesnt borrow more money the checks dont go out.

Now what the fuck do you say?
"Q1. Which political party took Social Security from the independent trust fund and put it into the general fund so that Congress could spend it?

A1: There has never been any change in the way the Social Security program is financed or the way that Social Security payroll taxes are used by the federal government.

"The Social Security Trust Fund was created in 1939 as part of the Amendments enacted in that year. From its inception, the Trust Fund has always worked the same way.

"The Social Security Trust Fund has never been 'put into the general fund of the government.'"

This is where Grover Norquist and the republicans have led us.

To a world where the right is calling out for more children to go hungry and fewer sick people treated.

When will the American people ride these people out of the country on a rail?
When we stop "choosing" between Democrat OR Republican in the voting booth.

They are comparing countries with slow or no population growth at all with another one (USA) that adds 30 million people each decade. They are comparing countries with high ethnic and social homogeneity with the country that defines melting pot.
And they are comparing countries that tax their richest citizens and corporations instead of borrowing from them.

"Our(USA!,USA!) bottom-of-the-heap ranking in social justice confirms the economic and political inequality that the Occupy movement is protesting. It also helps explain why this grassroots uprising in America has spread so rapidly to more than 600 communities and has generated such broad public support.

"After all, our nation is fabulously rich, ranking well ahead of nearly every other OECD member in national wealth, so there's no excuse for us sitting at the bottom of the list in education, health care, poverty, and other measures of a democratic and egalitarian society."

And replace it with...what, if anything?

We would replace it with whatever parents are willing to purchase.

These days, I think most children can get their schooling via internet at a very low cost.
Who would the parents purchase their childrens' education from?

Let me guess, you believe that if public education was eliminated that no private schools would spring up to replace them?

how about we just give it back to Obama with an all dem congress so he can actually get real things done.
Be careful what you wish for.
Obama and a Democratic congress could "reform" Social Security in ways that benefit Wall Street only.

Both major parties serve the 1%.
That's where their campaign contributions come from.
Obama would be far more likely to morph into a true progressive if a hundred Democrats AND Republicans were FLUSHED from congress next November.

Without a huge shove to his left, Obama will finish his second term in exactly the same way he began his first, namely following the lead of his predecessor.

I think it's more likely corporate schools would take public education's place.
