American Consumers

Confidence among U.S. consumers increased more than forecast in January, reaching its highest level in eight months on signs the labor market is improving.

The Thomson Reuters/University of Michigan preliminary index of consumer sentiment climbed to 74 from 69.9 at the end of December. The median estimate in a Bloomberg News survey called for 71.5. The measure has increased 9.9 points in the last two months, the biggest such gain since April-May 2009.

The lowest jobless rate in almost three years and cheaper gasoline prices since mid-2011 are giving Americans reason to be more upbeat. While the pickup in optimism will probably help sustain household purchases, limited wage gains and falling real estate values may temper the consumer spending that accelerated in the fourth quarter.

I guess you are not cheered by recovery?

WHY?

One of the 2012 Farmer's Almanac's short stories is about the Titanic, and how they tried to instill a false sense of confidence among the passengers , while well knowing they didn't have the lifeboats to accomodate them all......~S~

this is the consumers themselves.

Now why do you think this country will sink killing most of its citizens?

Consumers are feeling good about the $6.2Trillion in additional borrowing that Obama's laid on them.

That was the plan all along.

they can just level the entire world and be free to place their chips where they want them and shuffle when anyone place gets too upity and wants a decent life.

They have not won yet and can not control us if we know their game and join forces to combat them.

well,

isn't that cause enough to be suspect of false confidence TM?

think on it, there's more than enough motive.....

the only problem with your theory is that people I talk to daily are matching this trend

The prayer of the Democrats: Oh holy consumer, please spend money you do not have on material shit you do not need, so that Obama the Messiah may long reign over the remnants of this once glorious nation. Amen.

again the most unhappy man in the world says very little worth note

so you hate capitalism?

Yup.

AS the unemployment situation improves on the private side (its still a problem in the public side) people who still have jobs grow more confident that they're going to make it.

And as a lot of pent up demand for items that people have put off buying continues to grow, people are biting the bullet and getting those large ticket items they've been putting off buying.

Things are getting better, but if they're not getting better for you, it's hard to see it.
