You are laboring under the misapprehensions of the Old America. In the Old America, "investigation" meant "a search for truth" and "truth" meant "what actually happened irrespective of the Washington Post". In the New America, those old-fashioned ideas are out the window. Trump needs to respond according to the terms of the New America.
