Trump’s Role in Republican Disfunction in Congress

Or Republicans realize that they need to hang together or they surely will hang separately...
The majority of the GOP supported Kev. A handful of oddballs voted with the dems to dump him.
It will coninue to happen unless they can get a clear majority. That is inevitable.
Where does that leave the GOP ? Nowhere.

There is no difference between a slow death and a quick death in the end result. It is still death. A quick one may be more merciful.

Of course all the Trump supporting Republicans here at USMB (and in Congress) who backed McCarthy, as well as all those who back Gaetz, refuse to recognize that their moronic hero Trump himself is the person most responsible for the chaotic nihilism and grifting showmanship that divides our nation and the Republican-controlled House of Representatives.

Trump was the one who supported McCarthy and helped him in his wheeling & dealing to become Speaker of the House, and yet he also led the effort to shut down the government — which McCarthy intelligently prevented at the last moment.

The attacks on the Trump-supporting McCarthy from the “Trump-supporting” Gaetz finally elicited a typical “I am not to blame and I don’t accept any responsibility” Trump pronouncement criticizing the “disfunction” of his Republican supporters in Congress!

But not to worry, MAGA Republicans!

Both Gaetz & McCarthy have had serious discussions with Trump leading up to this nihilist charade, both sides have rendered homage to the Orange baboon, and as Trump points out he likes both men as they have “said nice things” about him!

Just a note about this, Thomas Massie and Chip Roy, neither have endorsed Trump. Instead endorsing DeSantisn didn't vote to oust McCarthy. who was part of the initial 9 who voted against McCarthy back in January. Roy, one of the most conservatives in DC (even moreso than Gaetz),

Gaetz is a RINO for sure. There's no question about that, and shouldn't have been elected speaker. But the points they made about keeping McCarthy for the rest of his term was pretty good points.
Not enough to sway me from thinking McCarthy should be ousted. But we simply don't know how this is going to pan out. We don't know who the next one will be. We don't know if the Democrats are going to somehow steel the show somehow.
There's a "fear" involved in all this.

One a positive note, the next GOP speaker will know that he'd better keep his promises.

As Yogi would say "it ain't over till its over"
I hope Jim Jordan get the Speaker's job, he's a no-nonsense bulldog with the heart of a lion (National Wrestling Champ)
I'm not sure he gets how crooked DC is on both sides.

The GOP still has a majority in the House.
That leaves the Biden agenda roadblock in good standing, at least until the GOP can gain the WH and Senate in 2024.

Yeah because before Trump Congress was a well oiled machine. Lol.

Trump is a cunning & talented p.r. conman. Because his ultra-divisive demagogy had so much appeal to usually quiescent and disgruntled non-voting whites, he beat the arrogant Hillary Clinton, likely surprising even himself.
Those traits are evident in politicians too numerous to count....Trump isn't the first, nor will be the last.
This demagogy and this “victory” turned Trump into a one-man cult hero to his followers. But his biggest accomplishment was to divide & polarize the nation and tear down the traditions & political culture necessary to keep our Republic alive. His “victory” in the Supreme Court was just The Federalist Society’s victory. His ZIRP monetary policy was 100% wrong. His fiscal spending policy was inflationary & increased the deficit (as did the Dem policy during Covid) and on top of that he pushed an unnecessary permanent tax cut for corporations and private capital funds that further enriched oligarchs and corporate managers. He “loved” authoritarians like Putin and Xi and Kim Jong-un because his megalomania and narcissism makes him want to be an elected “king” himself. He was otherwise remarkably incompetent in actually governing. Finally, as a defeated lame duck, he did everything in his power to disrupt and prevent the Constitutional and legitimate transfer of power, and his cult followers and tens of millions of Republicans, believing his lies, went along with that too. The worst President in American history, except perhaps for Andrew Johnson.

None of this means the Democrats do not often act as idiots and fools around their own pet issues. But Trump is indeed a dangerous aging “cult hero” who remains the leading candidate of Republicans for the 2024 election, even as he is being prosecuted for some obvious (and other less obvious) crimes. His responsibility for the Republican Party’s internal chaos is clear.
Same substance could be said of any number of politicians over the years, only the content is different.

You only give a flying fuck about narcissism, demagoguery, and divide & conquer when it delivers results that you don't like.

Huh? Your argument is that Trump is responsible becasue he's supported both men in the past?

Yeah because before Trump Congress was a well oiled machine. Lol.
Congress never functioned — nor was it ever expected to function — as a “well-oiled machine.” But since the two-party system has developed, parties have been more of less progressive or reactionary and more or less effective.

The Republican Party was becoming reactionary long before the demagogue Trump took it over. From a party founded by Abraham Lincoln, one of the greatest of all American politicians, after purging its liberal and progressive wings and allying with religious crazies, adopting a Southern Strategy and orienting toward angry white ethnics, it has become increasingly sick. It is now transformed and dominated by the “Trump Party” / “Trump cult.”

Of course there still are different factions in the party who understand that Trump is a moron, incompetent and a danger … despite his cunning demagogic instincts. This tension between all the grifting factions and between the more realistic and more irrational elements is producing a particularly disfunctional party in Congress that is now unwilling and unable to participate responsibly in passing essential legislation.

Neither crime family is capable and both are corrupt and dysfunctional. Trump is a buffoon, but we’ve had many over the years.
