To the ones who just don't get it and think Obama should negotiate~

Sorry, but we are dealing in reality here. Republicans repeatedly stated that they did not want the government to shut down. While they were working, the senate was out doing whatever. They brought several plans that were rejected and Reid refused to negotiate and compromise. Plans were on the table. Reid rejected them and the government shut down because he didn't get his way. Any way you want to slice it and dice it, those are the cold hard facts. This shutdown is on Harry and Barack and it will cost them in 2014 and 2016.

You must not be aware of the entire scenario. Republicans have submitted bills, yes, but they all want to do away with Obamacare. Why would Reid, knowing the President isn't going to sign it, even bother with them. It's Republicans that won't submit a clean bill (one that doesn't try to destroy Obamacare), and why there is a stalemate.

Sorry, but the way most Americans see it, it's the Republicans that are to blame, and the polls don't back your assertion that the Dems are being blamed. Time for you to face the facts.

Polls: Republicans Blamed for Government Shutdown

Republicans may take more blame for shutdown, poll says - CBS News

That's just because the media is biased and not telling the whole story. Hopefully, the internet will get the truth to enough people. The dictator needs to be removed from the whitehouse. We've had 17 previous shutdowns and NEVER before were our privately funded memorials closed to our veterans.

I don't care who's at fault for this shutdown, but Obama is at fault for punishing the people.

Wrong, all of the bills submitted were clean. None had obamacare funding attatched
That is not true. If any of them had not tried to defund, or dismantle Obamacare, the Republican majority in the House would not have passsed them. Boehner is on record as saying he would never submit a clean bill.

"There are not the votes in the House to pass" a clean spending bill, Boehner said, insisting that Democrats must accept some kind of alteration to the healthcare law before Republicans will agree to a budget deal.

So show a link where they ever passed a clean bill.

For over 200 years this is how appropriation bills were handled. Item by item.
Never in the history of the US has a party used dismantling of a "law" in order to get their wishes - never.

Never in the history of the US has the government ever taken over 1/6 of the economy and mandated people purchase a product or else face a fine.

None of the CR's in the link below contain any qualification whatsoever, for defunding or dismantling obamacare. Not one. They are ALL clean.

Pass all of them, and obamacare is NOT effected in the least.

Fail to pass them and the misery is on the Dems.

You might want to check on the reasons Carter shut down the government

Well of course the Republicans are being blamed in the media. The media is liberal and supports Obama and the Democrats. They will always provide cover. The other side of your scenario is. Why should the Republicans provide a "clean" CR when the majority of Americans they represent do not approve of Obamacare? Obama and Reid need to listen to the American people instead of dictate and stonewall. They need to negotiate. It's the way our system works.

If you look at the multiple polling data and averaging below, at no point has a majority of Americans ever approved of Obamacare.

Reagan raised the debt ceiling 18 times to pay for his unprecedented military build up

Bush 41 raised the debt ceiling 9 times.

Bush 43 raised the debt ceiling 7 times.

AND NEVER, not once, did the democrats use it to extract policy concessions.

The Debt Ceiling has been raised far more by Republicans, yet the Democrats have never made an issue of it.

But it gets weirder. Obama is now asking for the Republican spending levels in the Continuing Resolution. His opening bid is a huge compromise. And because he compromised so thoroughly on the CR, the Republicans sense weakness - and now they are trying to end his presidency by destroying his signature legislation, which was supported in two elections, passed into law, and survived a supreme court challenge.

This has never happened before. The debt ceiling has never been used like this before.

The Republicans have never had a problem raising the debt ceiling when their guy was in office. Bush took the nation from record surpluses to unprecedented deficits without one challenge to his many debt ceiling increases. Not one Republican made a peep when Bush raised the debt ceiling 7 times. Not one peep.

The country has been taken over by criminals.

Your opinions don't agree with facts. If you are going to make such claims, you need to be able to back them up with credible links.

He can't and his ideological blinders won't allow him to see the truth that those of us who HAVE provided credible links have posted. :)

Republicans in Congress have rallied toward the medical device tax as the ultimate shiny object of repeal.
Republicans couldn't come up with alternative revenue sources. Their only proposals are to let the deficit go up a little, or to cut Obamacare’s subsidies and Medicaid expansion.

Millions have already bought their health insurance, and the republicans greed can go cower in the corner.

1) We have plenty of revenue
2) We have tons of overspending, including but not limited to Obamacare
3) It is greed when you think the government owes you something or should be the agent to make the marketplace come to you
4) Millions could already buy insurance as it is a service that is on the open marketplace...
5) You nor anyone else is owed subsidized insurance or care

I own my business and pay over $30,000 a year plus $5,000 deductible, it is kicking my ass.
Why would you ASSUME that I am looking for a handout.

What is going on is the Big Bucks in the medical world is going to change, the rip offs in the insurance companies aren't going to kick you off because of having a disease.

Hi Eaglewings: That's fine if you want this policy but participation in insurance should be voluntary to begin with like any other business practice. Can you explain to me why the participation couldn't just be optional where all people who want it buy into it?

Why was the individual mandate pushed as the "only way to make this work."

Why for example couldn't the criminal justice system costs be revamped to cover health care. To require people buy insurance for CRIMES so if your CRIMES cost the public money then your insurance pays for this, and that money can be used for health care for lawabiding citizens, paid for as restitution by those who commit crimes, NOT THE OTHER WAY where health care for criminals is paid for by lawabiding citizens and working taxpayers.

Why couldn't the option be offered of investing in medical education programs and teaching hospitals, where public health is provided through clinics and public housing/institutions by supervised interns in exchange for educational loans. Why was the only option to either buy private insurance or pay a fine/tax/penalty to govt?

I never have found a single person who is prochoice who could explain how any of this is prochoice when ACA penalized free choice. So I gave up asking that question.

Can you answer why couldn't single payer type programs be set up by organizing all the supporters of this by party and connecting their resources and policies in one network? Why does this take federal govt to mandate it? Why couldn't it be organized by supporters?

We just got the word that my hubbie's beloved doctor--the best one he has ever had--is taking early retirement. He said government regulation of medicine has made it a nightmare to practice any more and Obamacare pushed him over the edge. He just doesn't want to do it any more. :(
