Yep, it is quite sad that Marriage has become a political sort of status now, when all it is, is a religious institution in support of a union between man and woman (in Christianity's case, anyway) Other religions that sport same-sex marriages should be allowed to do so, but it should be based on the religion, not by politics.

It's based on people..individual citizens...couples and their legal rights.

If religious people hadn't run around the country "In Defense of Marriage" it would not be in the news..Instead it would be just a private legal arrangement with the State regardless of religion..as it should be.


Both sides are guilty of politically motivated emotional manipulation.

In a way I agree.

YOUR religion should have every right to recognize whatever form of marriage they want. Need both parents to be born into your religion? Who cares. Need the bride's sister in law to have been a descendant of the Pilgrams, whatever.

I thus have the same rights to recognize gays, inter racial, or whatever union in the religion I belong to.

Without your Church's permission neither the President, the Governor nor any justice of the peace can consecrate your sacrament of marriage on folks.

Just like my church doesn't recognize communion given by other churches as a sacrament.

Now in a civil ceremony this Bill of Rights led Republic can go do whatever it wants w/o the permission of my church or yours.

This entire thing is really silly. The neo-cons want ownership of a word. One damn word. Marriage. They haven't been able to fight civil unions...but the use of that emotionally charged word they have fought.

The tide will turn one day...as the nation gets younger and more liberal. Sucks that people get hurt in the meantime though.
