If they cannot refute your argument they have only three options:

2) Try to slap what they think is a derogatory label on you and hope that works to discredit your argument.

3) Is really a 1 - 2 combo: They don't respond to the point, they attack you personally in an effort to try to discredit you rather than their argument.

Increased government involvement with business decisions
Increased government regulation for environmental, safety, or other purposes, even where those remain unproven
Liberalized abortion laws
Liberalized laws regarding drug use and punishment
Increased use of government to remedy discrimination, where discrimination is defined by the results observed, not by behavior evidenced
Increased taxes on "the weatlhy" or other productive entitiies.
Decreases in defense spending and the overall defense posture
Increases in "nanny state" laws like limits on salt, calories, fat, soda size and the like

There are others. Obviously not every leftist will subscribe to every one of these tenets. And non leftists might subscribe to some of them anyway. But these are generalizations that are fair.

The GDP (gross domestic product) shrank a whopping 3% in the 1st quarter of 2014 and 10 million Americans don't have jobs.
