Beautifully shot and warmly acted.
Says Film critic Leonard Maltin.Well heaven forbid.
Knock me over with a Biden clover. If that don't beat all.
You'd best find films like this before it's too Late.
And don't hesitate. It's as authentic Good 'ol U.S.of A. as
humanly possible.I doubt one could find a better example of
what this country and the folk inside cared about, thought about,
talked about or give a hoot nor holler what it meant to be a
a regular person in that era..Because none of the characters in that
Unbelievably authentic film are regular. They all possess fine, often
quirky personalities.Sayings one will never hear again.Dialects as
True Grit as a plate of beans and franks at some salvation Army social
at the local soup kitchen.
Never bee a nutter like it.
The way God apparently wished upon Mankind.

^ Crazy town!!!!!! You cant even have a thread about the godfather movies without making the OP look like it was written by a god damn lunatic. What the fuck man? Can you NOT make a normal thread? Stop being weird as fuck. :cuckoo:

I have always enjoyed the basic Three Godfathers story. The same basic story was told in five different movies but to me the 1936 version was the best.

1916 - Three Godfathers
1919 - Marked Men
1929 - Hell's Heroes
1936 - Three Godfathers
1948 - 3 Godfathers

The novel, The Three Godfathers by Peter B. Kyne was published in 1913 and became a bestseller. The story was filmed five times in a 32-year span under five title variations or complete changes starting with The Three Godfathers in 1916 directed by Edward J. Le Saint featuring Harry Carey, followed by John Ford’s first version, Marked Men (1919) also starring Harry Carey. The third version was Hell’s Heroes (1929), 27-year-old director William Wyler’s first full length talkie, as well as one of the earliest talking Westerns. The fourth version was Three Godfathers (1936) directed by 48-year-old Richard Boleslawski making this his fourth-last film just a year before he died in 1937. The final version was 3 Godfathers (1948), John Ford’s second time at the bat, this film featuring his favourite actor John Wayne and paying tribute to Harry Carey by casting his son Harry Carey, Jr. as one of the three bandit godfathers.

First off the Movie was done numerous times and has Nothing whatever
in the slightest to do with any - Godfather - Movies.
Stop eating spiked Popcorn that's week old.
The movie was also done in { 1948 } starring John Wayne.
Plus a TV version and even a Japanese animated version
- Tokyo Godfathers -
Plus where it is written that you are expected to read
and respond to New Threads.
Unless of course you enjoy bawling-out those with Threads
that don't meet with your high standards.

A great movie, Foolardi.

Thanks, Flash for telling us about the earlier versions. I'll try to find them. The novel also.

Speaking of True Grit, I recommend you both read the novel by Charles Portis. Reading it cleared up a mystery that I had wondered about since I was a kid: why did the characters talk in such perfect, almost schoolmarm style English, instead of the rough language of men of the west?

It was written that way in the novel, where it is much more clear that the speech is reported speech. Speech reported by a well-educated old spinster recalling events that happened when she was a young teen.

He also wrote one called "Dog of the South," which part way into, you realize is the same basic plot as True Grit, with different characters and motivation and a completely different setting than the west.

I was immediately impressed as to the dialogue from the writting
of Kyne.It was what hasn't been used in movies for a long time.
Somewhat like the Westerns of old and even TV Western series.
Don't forget Steve McQueen was barely an actor when he got his
TV Western - Wanted: Dead or Alive -.
McQueen became famous for his take on being an actor.
Don't get wordy.Use as little dialogue as possible. That a way
the words { dialogue } wont' get boring thru overuse.
Western Star Dale Robertson - Tales of Well Fargo -
did like 3-4 movies a year throughout the early to mid 50's
till he got - Tales -.He was advised to NOT go the route of
hiring or using any acting coach.Like many the greats did.
Using people like Stella Adler or those pushing " Method "
acting.Robertson was given good advice to Just be yourself.
Don't change a thing.Do not tinker with your normal personality
or way of delievering dialogue.

Let me just say { Reiterate }.I was thinking about this the
other day.Paul Newman.Because I was also born and raised in
Shaker Heights,O. Once the best part of Cleveland.
Take that Hugh Hewitt { From Warren,O. }
I can almost prove that Paul Newman's Best movie was
NOT - Cool Hand Luke - { 1967 } OR - The Hustler - { 1961 }
Where even most Movie Critics are hesitant to even mention.
Why I don't know or even care. These same Movie Critics also
lambasted - The Shining - { 1980 } on it's release and for a few
years afterward.
Newman's Best EVER Movie was :
- Hud - { 1963 }
It was spelndidly shot in B & W by James Wong Howe who
won an Academy Award for Cinematography.
Plus Best Supporting Male Actor
Best Supporting Female Actor.
The dialogue is fantastic.Perfectly fit Newman.
Trust me on this.

great movie. they need to remake it with susan sarandon, madonna and cher.

Don't think I've ever seen the 1936 version. I'll give it a look. Don't like Wayne much except in a couple of movies so that 1948 version doesn't do anything for me.

Hud was a good movie, but he did two or three better imho.

Hell NO!.I mean,I have Sarandon's very first movie.
I watch it every year.
- JOE- { 1970 } with the Banner " Keep America Beautiful "
I lucked onto a DVD copy more than 20 years ago.
It's irreplacable.A very gutsy,authentic movie.
Starring newbie Peter Boyle and Dennis Patrick.
Somewhat turned into a true-blue Bigot Buddy Flick.
But it's well made, acted with nice trendy dialogue.

Excuse moi.So how do you plan on doing that.
I know there are streaming Movie platform that act as if
they have almost any movie made, for viewing.
YouTube carries free movie viewing on many many movies
I highly doubt that Most { Troma } or { Psychotronic } Movies
are available. Most every one sucks ... no end.
About as worthless as month old wet bread during a
winter blizzard.

Awesome movie. Susan S. showed her talents well, and so did Peter Boyle and Robert Duvall.

Where is the site that you got that screenshot from?

It's called "just watch".

The search window is at the end of the top line and doesn't always appear immediately... It's usually the last thing to load on my Android.

You are correct.
Looks like 1936 Three Godfathers is only on MAX with a subscription.
