While obviously the GOP should have run Strange, there were enough mitigating factors with Moore that this election isn't necessarily a harbinger. Plus the Dems have an uphill battle defending so many seats in 2018.
That said, Trump and his followers haven't done much to attract new voters, that's for sure. They appear to be trying to make the GOP as unattractive to moderates and independents as the Regressives did with the Dems for 2016.

But if the GOP primary voters hadn't had a brain fart and nominated Moore, they'd have easily kept this seat
If the sexual charges hadn't come up, Moore still would have won.

Not even that, my friend...In March and April there are TWO more special elections for disgraced and resigning GOP representatives (in PA and AZ) if those go south (pardon the expression) Trump will be a pariah on Nov. 2018.......and then the "naked emperor" will lose the GOP support (not from his cult, mind you.....but from everyone else.)

When the main cause of Hillary's loss was the Green Party claiming the far left, just like it was with Ralph Nader in 2000.
Mac, buddy, Trump got less of a percentage of the vote than Romney did. He did worse with White people than Romney did.
The reason Hillary lost was too many voters believed the media when they said
