The Trillion Dollar Coin.

What program you think we should cut, and how much money we would save by doing so?

There should be cuts to every federal department across the board. There should be no more foreign aid, no more farm bills, no more earmarks, nothing that isn't vital to keeping the federal government running until we have a balanced budget.

Then why, exactly, would you want a government around?

:eusa_eh:

The federal government wasn't created to do any of those things. It's amassed those powers on its own over the years with the consent of fools like yourself who seem to be content on bringing down our nation if it satiates your greedy appetite today.

Basically..Money has no value.

It's a place holder.

Wealth comes from growing, mining or building stuff.

It's seriously troubling to watch what conservatives do to a good thing.

Which is the US economic engine.

Nice partisan slant you threw on a very bipartisan problem. Under the Obama administration we have already incurred as much debt as we did under all eight years of the Bush administration. And under the Bush administration we incurred as much debt as every president prior combined.

This is not a conservative v liberal, Republican v Democrat problem. You're both in cahoots on the wrong side of the issue causing the problem.

Bullshit.

FACT. Not my fault if numbers aren't your forte. Go back to school and learn to add.

The Tea party doesnt want to do the job they are hired to do.
Exactly when was the "Tea Party" hired; and who hired them??

TM you are one certified loony tune.......... :cuckoo:

The voters.

Now do you posit that EVERYONE who voted for a tea party tard wants our government dead ?

Right. The voters hired them to do the job those voters intended they do. Which is obstruct democrats. If the voters wanted someone to agree with democrats, they would not have elected tea party representatives. Yes, everyone who voted for a tea party representative wants to stop obama. The voters knew exactly what they were doing and fully intended to do it.

The United States can print all the worthless money it wishes to. It can made a quintillion dollar coin if it wishes. This is what Zimbabwe has done. Million dollar bills are now worth less than US one dollar bills. Getting this funny money accepted as legal tender is another story. Raising the debt ceiling is finite. It can be raised only until such time as other nations stop lending. Like an individual. They get credit cards until lenders stop issuing them the cards. We either voluntarily adopt a debt ceiling or we have it imposed upon us. This is what happened in Greece. They borrowed until the EU said NO. Then Greece tried to twist German's arm and Germany said No. obama intends to borrow until someone says no more.

Obama started 2 wars?
Obama created the Department of Homeland security?
Obama implemented a new benefit for drugs?
Obama put into place 2 stimulus packages?

Naw..that was George W. Bush. And he didn't raise taxes to pay for any of that. He left it for the other guy to clean up.

Obama added about 1 trillion to the debt.
Bush added around 4 trillion (but hey..who knows..could be more).

Not my fault if reality isn't your forte.

The debt ceiling, although recent, was put into place to act as a "lock on the liquor cabinet". The politicians didn't trust themselves with the power of unlimited spending and therefore why should we?

The spending we have is designed to preserve a status quo for incumbent politicians - to satisfy each politician or party's constituency.

What no one is asking is: what should we be trying to build with this money?

Where's the plan?

2013 United States federal budget - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It's the spending, stupid.

Cap federal spending at 18% of GDP. Cut defense spending by at least 10%. Stop all foreign aid. Eliminate all Corporate Welfare and loan guarantee programs. Repeal Obamacare. Raise Social Security retirement age to 65 for early retirement and 70 for full. Medicare should be reformed by raising eligibility age to 70 and block granted to the states to manage.

Then we need a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution. It's not going to be easy, but it needs to be done. We spend too much.

It's the spending, stupid.

There should be cuts to every federal department across the board.

Why? If we need a particular program, why cut it, instead of paying for it?

Because we can't pay for it, genius. Get it?

And need and want are two different things.

The root of our fiscal problem in a nutshell. Add a vision/plan of what it is that we need to build and we're back in business. The rest is nothing more than wishful thinking.

Oh so in this cutting frenzy is requirement to work until age 70?

And how exactly does that get done?

You going to require employers to keep employees on until 70?

SSI was established because people got sick and tired of getting fired at 50 and dying at 65 in misery.

If you really wanted to cut all the spending..get government out of the free market.

As in..no more binding arbitration. No more sending in troops to stop strikes.

Free Market and Freedom of Speech.

Have at it.

Nice attempt at deflection, but thanks for playing.

Obama added about 1 trillion to the debt.

Bush added $5 trillion to the national debt. Obama has added $5 trillion to the national debt.

If you want to wallow in your own ignorance to keep justifying your juvenile beliefs, chock full of failure, I can't help you with that. Maybe some day you'll actually grow up and join the real world.

Says who? And if we "can't pay for it" how are we managing to make payments right now?

We've borrowed $6T in the past four years! At some point, one has too many maxed out credit cards and its time to Stop Spending and pay off debt.

As a country, we are well beyond that point and continued deficit spending is suicidal.

The US government spend whole 1.5% of its budget on foreign aid. You really think we can solve anything by eliminating it?
