Article 10 of the Constitution says don't need to “petition” in order to secede. They just secede!

So, according to the article at States Don’t Need To Petition To Leave The Union this is nothing but sloppy reporting by the Lame Street Media. It's groups of citizens – not the states – that are sending this stupidity to a White House websile.

So, according to the article at States Don’t Need To Petition To Leave The Union this is nothing but sloppy reporting by the Lame Street Media. It's groups of citizens – not the states – that are sending this stupidity to a White House websile.

Premise 1: The Constitution says that powers not delegated to the United States are reserved for the States.

Premise 2: Article I Section 8 of the Constitution specifically delegates the power to suppress insurrection to the United States (embodied in the Congress). Therefore insurrection is not a power retained by the States.

Premise 3: Insurrection is a revolt against the established government (in other words the State is revolting against the United States government). (And no, violence is not required to be in a state of insurrection.)


Conclusion: A State that attempts to summarily secede without the consent of the other States is in a state of insurrection and Congress is authorized by the Constitution to suppress such insurrection.
