Like I keep saying, the more you tax something the less of it you get. That's why taxes on consumption are superior to taxes on production.

The income tax is a tax on production.

I favor repealing the income tax and replacing it with the Fair Tax.
You want some real irony? A consumption tax is also the ultimate progressive tax - and yet the left vehemently opposes it.

A person with Bill Gates money won't give a damn how high the taxes are on a Lamborghini. You could hit mansions, exotic automobiles, private jets, etc. hard. The rich would absolutely pay their "fair share".

They tried that with the yacht tax a while back. All it did was decimate the American yacht building industry. But I do agree a consumption tax would give every person more control over how much tax they pay, because they could then decide how much they wanted to buy.

That's probably the biggest reason the left opposes it, they can't stand anyone having the freedom to pay less taxes.

The left desperately attempts to promote the false narrative that taxing people has no affect on them at all. While even the most basic common sense (not to mention history) dictates otherwise, the left still attempts to push that propaganda on society.

Now, even the CBO (Congressional Budget Office) has come out and confirmed that higher taxes and government programs decrease incentive to work. Which is why left-wing policy (socialism, communism, marxism, fascism, etc.) always ends in collapse, poverty, and misery. The latest evidence of that indisputable reality is Venezuela.
"When workers' earnings rise but their after-tax income rises less—because of increases in their income and payroll taxes or declines in their benefits from government programs—their incentive to work typically declines," said Shannon Mok, an analyst for the budget office in the tax analysis division.
Well duh. That's just common sense. It continues...
"When deciding how much to work, people consider not only the higher earnings from working more hours but also the resulting difference in after-tax income—which is market income plus government transfers minus taxes," Mok says.

"Increases in marginal tax rates, on net, decrease the supply of labor by causing people already in the labor force to work less," she says.
Hence the catastrophic failure of left-wing policy - as seen most recently in Venezuela. Left-wing policy decentivizes production and incentivizes society to be idle and unproductive. Which ultimately leads to collapse as there is less and less production of the products and services needed by society.

Surprise, surprise: CBO says higher taxes and government programs decrease incentive to work

My only issue with the Fair Tax is that stupid "prebate"

It makes no sense to charge a higher tax rate and incur the cost of sending every single person in the country a check every month when all that needs to be done is to charge a lower rate and exempt a few necessities from the tax and do away with the monthly rebate altogether

My official position is that the Right Wing is financing Government
Now that is true. The right is the 52% that pays federal income tax and keeps the federal government financed. The left is made up of the 48% of parasites who mooch off of society and pays 0 federal taxes.
What are you paying, if we still have to finance Government on the other Peoples' dime.

i favor cutting the spending of our alleged wars on crime, drugs, and terror. The right wing doesn't believe they are real, or they would be paying real times war tax rates on them.

I'm on the left and I think if taxes are done BADLY then it can deincentivise work. Certainly I argue against a lot of left wing people that their views on welfare are actually more damaging than they claim they are.

But that's not ALL left wing people.

Actually, a sales tax (which is what the Fair Tax is) is regressive, not progressive.

That's why the Fair Tax has a prebate. The prebate mitigates the regressive nature of a sales tax.

Exemptions are precisely what has totally corrupted our current tax structure.

As soon as you open the door to exemptions, then our politicians start taking bribes from all comers to put exemptions in the tax code.

You start with taking bribes from the dairy industry to exempt milk, and before you know it you are taking bribes from the yacht builders and realtors and distillers.

We have to stop this thoroughly corrupt practice of allowing our politicians to accept bribes ("campaign contributions") to put exemptions, deductions, and credits in our tax code. Period.

So it's better to have what amounts to a welfare check mailed to everyone every month? You don't think that will be fucked with ?

It never makes sense and it is always more costly to charge a higher rate only to give some of the money collected back

The prebate offsets the regressive nature of a sales tax. It would be the same amount for everyone. A wealthy person would get the same size check as a poor person.

Not having a prebate would make any federal sales tax extremely regressive.

It's still nothing but an extraneous cost

Just charge a lower sales tax rate and get rid of the extra crap

Tell what's the logic of charging 100 dollars for something only to cut a check back for 20 dollars to everyone that bought whatever it was they bought?

Just charge 80 and be done with it

Surprise surprise the CBO is referring to low and lower middle income people and the tax effects of earning more on other tax reductions such as SNAP.

Then why does Norway, with its cradle to grave social programs, and free everything have the highest GDP in the world?
It doesn't. In fact, Norway isn't even in the Top 25 for GDP in the world. :lmao:
The US has a population of 310 million people and is the world's largest economy with a GDP of 18.57 trillion dollars. Its per capita income is $56,116. The United States is highly industrialized with some of the largest automotive and technological firms located in the country. The country is the world’s largest importer and the second largest exporter. The growth of the US economy is also accredited to the fact that it protects its firms from unfair competition and promotes innovation.
You truly are a special, special kind of stupid. You've been so easily duped by the left because you refuse to think for yourself and you refuse to ask questions.

Countries With the Highest GDP

Surprise, surprise...a left-wing lunatic attempts to deny reality and twist an indisputable reality. Taxes negatively impact everything and anything that is taxed. Period. It can't be debated.

And...surprise, surprise, the left only taxes the middle class anyway. The wealthy elite like the Clinton's and Pelosi's won't tolerate being taxed.

It doesn't. In fact, Norway isn't even in the Top 25 for GDP in the world.

It makes more sense to look at GDP per capita given the point that the post you are responding to is trying to make, i.e. about how Norway affords a very generous social safety net. Norway ranks higher than the US in this measure.
Ah! Yes. It is very important to move the goalposts and change the metric once the left-wing narrative is proven wrong.

Maybe if Norway didn't "afford" a "very generous social safety net", they would have actually made the top 25 in GDP. I can pretty much guarantee it.

I'm not sure that you understand why GDP per capita is a better metric but I also don't really care about whatever the narrative is anyway. It just seemed like an obvious correction that was worth making.
