I was listening to former Israeli soldier Tal Wasser, Oketz Canine Special Force Operator, speak about how at checkpoints/roadblocks Palestinians were routinely punished if they annoy a soldier or are viewed as misbehaving. They would be thrown in the jora, a small cell with a metal door, like a cubicle one tries on clothes in a fitting room. Often, they were left there for hours. Other punishments regularly carried out by soldies for annoying or misbehaving Palestinians at a roadblock was to cuff their hands with zip ties and blindfold them and make them sit out in the rain or hot sun for hours on end. Tal witnessed these practices regularly at Tapauch, a checkpoint/roadblock where there is little shade/shelter. Can we imagine if this was life for us every day of our lives? Can we imagine traveling in our towns and being subjected to being tied to a chair and blindfolded for hours on end just for annoying a soldier at a roadblock? The inhumanity of all of this is utterly appalling!
