Divination =
diviner prudent, soothsayer, use divination

A primitive root; properly, to distribute, i.e. Determine by lot or magical scroll; by implication, to divine -- divine(-r, -ation), prudent, soothsayer, use (divination).

How the word "divine" came to be used in English doesn't change the use of Hebrew word for divine...which is used in connection with God and characteristics of God. The English word 'divine' is simply the closest word available to use to translate from the Hebrew.

Soothsayers in the Old Testament, who were known as 'diviners', is not used in connection with the God of Israel who warned His People to stay away from such, 'diviners.'
