The Gaza fisherman who built his own reef - and was shot dead there by an Israeli gunboat

The underwater rock formations provide the best fishing grounds off Gaza, but they are just beyond the limit set by the Israelis for local boats. Tawfiq Abu Riyala dreamt up an ingenious plan to solve this problem; but it may have ended up costing him his life.

The 32-year-old fisherman had built up his own artificial rock with planks of wood, tyres, and bits of metal, seemingly well within the area in which he and his colleagues are allowed to operate. It was while he was adding to this pile that an Israeli gunboat opened fire, wounding him fatally.

The Palestinians say that it is systematic harassment, a weapon of economic warfare.

Once again you produce unsubstantiated tales of Israeli attacks that are from "Palestinian sources". How do you know he was not engaged in smuggling and when approached by the IDF turned and ran.
what you want it from a trustworthy Israeli source..lol
Military Censorship in Israel

Isn't this what all military do in every civilised nation.

I agree with toastman. This is a shame and I am sorry for this man's family.

Also from the article Hamas is given some of the blame for the situation as well.

The fishing industry was once a great money-earner for the territory. The 1994 Oslo peace accord gave Gaza’s 4,000 fishing families a 20- nautical-mile fishing zone. Ten years later they were still landing 3,000 tons of fish, enough for domestic need and export as well. . . . .

“Those were good days. Relations were good with the Israeli fishermen we used to meet; we would help each other out. But things changed. . . . .

In 2006, Hamas took control of Gaza and attacks on Israel began to rise: a blockade followed in retaliation.

Hmmm, what was that last word? Oh yeah, RETALIATION!!!

All from the same article linked in the OP.
Actually border restrictions started with Oslo. Border closure regimes started in 2005.

In 2005 Israel withdrew from gaza completely, and the arab muslims launched a frenzied attack as they did. This escalated into 2006 when hamas took control and Israel imposed border controls and the blockade. The arab muslims only have themselves to blame for what is happening, and they have it in their power to bring a halt to the blockade and restrictions.

General international consensus seems to think that Gaza is still 'occupied' due to Israeli control over airspace, the sea and the people!

And yet the P.A. says that it has not been occupied since August 2005, who should know better than you and your general international consensus

We all know how much you don't like facts Phoney...

"The United Nations,Human Rights Watch and many other international bodies and NGOs continues to consider Israel to be the occupying power of the Gaza Strip as Israel controls Gaza Strip's airspace, territorial waters and controls the movement of people or goods in or out of Gaza by air or sea."

And the best placed people to settle the argument are the Leaders of the P.A. who totally disagree with the UN and state gaza is no longer occupied and has not been so sine August 2005

NOPE the facts are there, but as always you don't like reading them as they put your POV into the realms of fantasy.
Then produce them, you lying sack of shit.

We both know you won't.

2014 Fatah Hamas Gaza Agreement - Wikipedia the free encyclopedia

In the midst of negotiations to resolve the 2014 Israel–Gaza conflict, the Shin Bet revealed an alleged plot by Hamas to depose Fatah rule in the West Bank. This would be achieved by deploying Hamas cells around the West Bank to incite a third intifada and overwhelm Palestinian Authority forces. More than 90 people were arrested. President Abbas said the plot was "a grave threat to the unity of the Palestinian people and its future."[8]

From your own link..

Following the agreement, the Israeli government announced that it would halt peace talks with the Palestinians
No sooner does Israel come out with that statement, Shin bet comes out with this mythical plot. Nor do they say how they knew of this plot.

Nice try, but you fail.

Not really as the link shows that hamas and fatah were playing games with each other. Once Israel had found out they suspended talks and waited for the conclusion. This was the murder of 3 innocent boys by hamas within days of them talking about doing just that that escalated into all out war. Which ever way you want to look at it the blame lies with the P.A. and hamas for starting the hostilities.

The Blame Lies with the Jewish Illegal Immigrants, who took over Palestine (for the moment)

What Jewish illegal immigrants would they be, as every one was invited to settle as full citizens

First off, how are they going to "deploy cells" in the heavily Israeli guarded West Bank, with over 500 roadblocks and check points restricting Palestinian movements. It's a little hard to "overwhelm" someone, when you're stuck in line at a checkpoint.

Secondly, Hamas did not kill the 3 teens. The only evidence to date, was that it was done by a rogue cell that doesn't take orders from their central leadership.

Third, Israel had been bitching about their unity government for weeks and was looking for a false flag event to launch an attack. They knew the kids were dead for 8 hours, but went around the West Bank acting like they were looking for them and arresting over 400 innocent Palestinian's.

You're fucked! Your lies are fucked! So go to hell, asshole!

They managed to kidnap 3 boys and brutally murder them miles away from where they were kidnapped. It is not like there is a checkpoint on every street corner. The west bank is not a small residential park you know it is a sprawling area with many villages, towns and cities.

Hamas admitted to having killed the 3 boys that is the evidence to date.

Just islamonazi wishful thinking that has suddenly transformed into fact WITHOUT ANY EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT IT.
So you are saying that once the boys were murdered the IDF should have stopped looking for the murderers and done nothing. Is that how your police work when someone is murdered, they drop the case and don't bother looking for the murderer. It is not the way to solve murder. Only a complete moron would expect the police to say we cant do any more the boys are dead.

Wrong and your use of profanities shows you have lost

Where's your proof they claimed responsibility?

I'm saying the IDF knew they were dead, but for 8 hours, acted like they weren't.

Someday the arab muslims will realise that if they keep on attacking Israel one day they will be living in ruins. Then they might stop attacking Israel.

This guy was fishing or do you class that as an attack on israel?

EVIDENCE that is irrefutable, and not some "Palestinian source"
Fairly sure you don't care about evidence. If the idf came out and verified the story wouldn't you just wait for the "real" truth to come out?

No I would accept the IDF account after they had verified the account. That is how it works

because the IDF :eusa_liar: NEVER lie, do they :cuckoo::cuckoo:

They did not have ownership of the land so they had no say in the matter. Many were wandering vagabonds working for food and shelter.
You're a fucking liar, it's as simple as that.

A map from 1950 showing the LIES of 1945 that has no bearing on the land ownership of 1922. This was produced by an anti semitic committee using arab muslim reports only, which is why the details are wrong. Look at the Ottoman and British census figures for Jerusalem alone and you see the LIE

CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA Jerusalem After 1291

"...Present condition of the City: (1907 edition)

Jerusalem (El Quds) is the capital of a sanjak and the seat of a mutasarrif directly dependent on the Sublime Porte. Hamas Admits To Kidnapping And Killing Israeli Teens NPR

A senior Hamas leader has said the group carried out the kidnapping and killing of three Israeli teens in the West Bank in June — the first time anyone from the Islamic militant group has said it was behind an attack that helped spark the current war in the Gaza Strip.

A top Hamas official said members of his militant group kidnapped three Israeli teenagers whose deaths in June provoked a spiral of violence that led to the war in Gaza, the first acknowledgement of the movement's involvement

Hamas Admits It Kidnapped Israeli Teens The Murder Which Escalated The Conflict

"The popular will was exercised throughout our occupied land, and culminated in the heroic operation by the Qassam Brigades in imprisoning the three settlers in Hebron," he said. The Qassam Brigades is the name of Hamas' military wing.

And that shows you are a complete moron as no Police force would stop investigating a murder just because they knew the victims were dead. How would you react if it was your son that was murdered and the police said to you well he is dead so we don't need to investigate any further.

If Gaza wasn't under occupation from Israeli forces, then why can't they fish without being shot at?

They can as long as they stay inside the proscribed area, and allow the IDF to inspect their boats. Why cant the Mexicans fish in American waters as a front for smuggling drugs ?
