No need for a girlfriend when you have this:

Can't remember where you said you worked. Was it Chiat Day? Account side or creative?

hahaha, neither. I had a cleaning contract with them and ended up running their mailroom and purchasing the office supplies and more support services. Helped with a few contractors as the office was exploding is size (NYC). Got to watch some of the most creative people in the country at the time. Some of them run the biggest ad agencies around.

I did video work for a few years as a hobby after getting involved in cable access television. The equipment the stations had was professional. I did a few things with people who have stuff on PBS and others who have films/videos/movies in film festivals now.

I don't know if I could ever do creative stuff for a living. It would kill the fun unless it were a creative place like c/d was. ahhhh, the camera might not lie, but a good editor does.

Agree. Creative is without a doubt the toughest job in any agency, but particularly the hot shops. Unfortunately, the industry is not what it once was, and now we're in a recession watch the creative standards go through the floor as agencies run scared in the face of reduced marketing budgets (always the first budgets to be cut).

After working for c/d I took an interest in the industry. I think the creative boutiques will do okay. The big agencies may have trouble but most of the good ones will survive. If I could do anything differently it would have been to get a job as a young man at a place like c/d. My job description read: pamper the creatives.

That's what everyone's job description reads!

Not all of them are worth it, but every now and then, a team comes up with something quite extraordinary. Really is quite a thrill when that happens.
