This allows nationwide insurance lobbyists to aggressively lobby state insurance comptrollers to allow insurance companies to increase their premiums every single year. And they do almost without fail and have been for more than 20 years now. Big Pharma has insurance paying for its pills and the government subsidizing them as well, what could go wrong?

Now if both parties were prosecuted for bribery (which is what it really is) healthcare prices would get back to normal rather quickly.

I agree with everything but your conclusion. And I'm not saying that is wrong. From my perspective, healthcare insurance companies won't reduce their prices unless they are forced to. The government cannot enact legislation to do it directly, then that goes against our capitalist principles. But if they kept the public option in the healthcare bill, the for-profit insurance companies would've had to make their prices more competitive, due to the lower costs of government insurance options. The government would knock off a good 25% of the cost right off the top, because it wouldn't have all those administrative costs the for-profit insurance companies have. Because its (the government) already set up to administer health coverage via Medicare.
