The residents of the County were in effect, disenfranchised by the process.
Truth be told, had the roles been reversed and minority people had been so disenfranchised, all hell would have broken loose.

This country, like all others, was founded to serve the purposes of those leaders who founded and formed it. They had their ideals and they had their interests. Their actions reflect the interplay between idealism (eg: the war for independence), pragmatism (eg: the Great Compromise), and simple self-interest (they never freed their won slaves- or their own children).

None of them were gods. None were angels. None were prophets of divine inspiration. So stop treating them like such and appealing to their words as the words of the Great Architect himself. Just because certain man might have believed something or held a given vision does not make it a good one- or a feasible one.

If you like an idea or system, defend it on its merits. I don't give a damn if Lucifer himself designed the bicycle, it remains a great mode of transportation. If Hitler had recommended a bicameral congress, it wouldn't suddenly become a bad idea. Just because Jefferson, Hamilton, Ghandi, or any other particular person forwarded an idea doesn't give it any weight or merit.

It takes a lot more to be an American than just birthright. Very important..It is not about being right. It is about doing right.

The United States is the greatest example of true democracy and achievement. People from all over the globe clamor to get here. How sad that while outsiders believe the streets are indeed paved with opportunity, whiny assed lefty Americans see only misery.
Not surprisingly, the complaining is louder than the successes. So the rest of the world while viewing America as a great country, also view Americans as unappreciative and arrogant.

Yep, I ivew a lot of this as failing to accept personal resonsibility for what our government has become and it's continued decline.

How many were re-elected in congress?

How many attend city council meetings and such?

But we all piss and moan about the results of OUR actions and inactions.

I concur.
I started going to my town's council meetings. It's very frustrating to just sit there while there is arguing and name calling. It's also hard to be silent while watching these people bicker over stuff they have no idea what they are doing.
For example. My town of 22,000 ( mostly residential, light industrial) has a limited services govt. Typical here in the South. We currently use our County sheriff's deputies for police protection. We have deputies that patrol within our town ONLY. We pay about $700k per year for 20 deputies to patrol 24/7. Some council members want to start a town PD. The startup cost and annual cost would triple out town tax rate from 15 cents per $100 to over 40 cents per $100 of assessed value. we would get the same service for three times the money.
The point is the majority of the residents that attend oppose this. These council members have their minds made up even in the face of public comment in opposition.
You just want to scream. Participating is hard. It is. But it is in my view necessary.
