The case for trickle up economics

I'm reminded of a group of consumers in an African country not so many years back. About a million of them, I think it was. They desperately wanted to consume food and water, but they couldn't seem to do it for themselves. The only thing that could was wealth. The wealth of nations that produce and invent and bring energy to their country and their lives. Those countries and people who grow wealth with their hands, not take wealth with their hands are able to provide things to the needy. Such as food and water and protection.

If prosperity trickled up, these million or so people would not have been begging for help to survive.

Action Against Hunger, Oxfam, Save the Children and World Vision said they have raised only $52-million of $250 million needed to provide emergency assistance to six million people in the region.

Clearly, there is need there. So, why can't the poor can create economic activity and bring themselves out of starvation? If this need cannot do it, what need can?

Unless there is capital investment to actually create goods and services and drive productivity (which to a worker is earnings and ability to pay) said potential consumer starves to death.

yes the liberal would have us believe the only way to end starvation is to give the starving people money!! If only life were so simple and liberal!

The luxury tax on Yachts was a perfect example. The liberals taxed the yacht buyers, used the money for entitlements, then the yacht buyers stopped buying yachts, the middle class that made the yachts got laid off, and the entitlements were then gone along with the middle class jobs.

This was the world in a grain of sand. The liberals had to repeal their tax. But did they learn their lesson?

If you put the government in charge of the Sahara within 5 years there'd be a shortage of sand.
Yet, wealth and an entrepreneurial spirit could feed those millions. But hey, it is the consumer and their needs that provide for economic growth. Just ask those in the Sahel. They must be booming with economic activity!!

It's very simple. Capital goes wherever consumers have money. (wherever there is demand)

Capital adds jobs wherever consumers have money.

CAPITAL GOES WHERE THE MONEY IS.

During the postwar years, the government made sure the middle class had a lot of money in their pockets. So capital innovated and added jobs in order to capture all that money - and, as a result of high demand, America saw it's greatest economic growth.

Then we got rid of the jobs, and we got rid of the policies that put money in middle class wallets (so we could give tax cuts to the job shippers)

But we still needed a healthy domestic economy.

So we handed out credit cards and silly mortgages.

Then we broke the bank.

Now we're fucked, especially because a group of morons won't let us go back to the model where government policy supplies the goose that lays the golden egg.

Demand.

Tax cuts don't trickle down in the form of high paying middle class jobs. It has to be done through government policy. If you leave capital alone, it will go to the 3rd world. If you don't tie it to American Labor through government policy, as Pat Buchanan and Lou Dobbs recommend, you are fucked.

Reagan got it wrong. Voodoo economics will NEVER pay the labor costs of a first world middle class. Capital will always opt for 3rd world labor costs - always. The only thing that will sustain real demand in this country - first world demand which comes from high wages and benefits - is government policy. Capital will never pay for a middle class consumer - it will never produce vigorous domestic consumption because it simply will not pay the wages or support a tax policies which creates a strong middle class. The postwar middle class is the only evidence we have of a vibrant middle class - and it was created by FDR and government policies. Reaganomics will not produce a middle class; it will produce a small group of super wealthy owners/investors and a large group of superfluous, impoverished workers.

And if you don't want to pay higher wages, you need after market policies which protect the solvency of the middle class.

capital is money????? why not start over trying to explain where the government gets the money to give to people who in turn can create demand with that money?

a little lesson in Econ 101 for you

There are billions of people in the world making products which they could never hope to afford, moron.

Nowhere near the consumers who have money.

More and more money in the hands of fewer and fewer people is the problem.

Middle class consumer demand creates jobs, not tax cuts for the idle rich.

The tax money is going into family projects for people like Nancy Pelosi and her brother-in-law, solyndra, and the desert solar plant. These are propositions that failed in the past, was going belly up when they got a windfall of 1.3 billion because Democrats got a bill to "Green energy" businesses as a way to take more and more money out of the hands of the taxpayers and into Nancy Pelosi's family's hands. They're already multi, multi millionaires.

Oh, and it was all tax-free, and President Obama even made a call to the US Treasury to hurry up with the money for Nancy's family.

The middle class is keeping these crooks in the 1%

What a silly post.

65% of the federal budget is defense, Social Security, and Medicare.

Half a billion dollars is not a silly amount. It trickled up to Nancy Pelosi from the taxpayer's pocket. She then went into "pass but don't read" idiot mode about Obamacare. It's full of crap, not savings. It will quadruple the cost of health care because it demands union membership for health care folk. You have no idea, Chris. You're just beating the drum. I don't hear you anymore.

We'll give tax breaks to the poor so they will have more money with which to invent products and create jobs to make those products???
Is there a simpler way to end this depression??

We already give tax refunds to those who don't even pay. We give illegal aliens tens of thousands of our money in fraudulent tax refunds. The people considered poor probably go to WalMart and spend their money, thus keeping WalMart and the companies in China who ship goods to WalMart in business. I know people who don't shop anywhere other than WalMart and get everything from food to clothing there. Doesn't help the local businesses too much.
