This post is intended for people who are taught to use ASA citation format when writing research papers. The American Sociological Association Style Guide is intended for authors who are preparing manuscripts for publication in ASA journals. Consult the ASA Style Guide for additional or more full information (ref desk HM 72 A53 1995).

Manuscript Format

1. All text (including footnotes & references) must be double spread out and in 12-point type.

2. Margins must be at least 1 on all four sides

3. A separate title page including title of paper, name(s) of authors, word count for the manuscript (including footnotes and references), title footnote (includes names, addresses of authors, acknowledgments, credits)

4. If required, on a separate page deliver a short (150-300 word) abstract along with the title.

5. Begin the text of the paper on a distinct page headed with the title of the paper.

Citations in Text

1. The basic form for citations in the text includes the last name of the author(s) and year of publication.

2. Include page number when you quote directly from the work or refer to specific passages.

3. If author's name is in the text, follow it with the publication year in parentheses:

Example: When Charli (1978) studied.

4. If the author's name is not in the text, enclose the last name and year in parentheses:

Example: When the study was completed (Jones 1992).

5. If the page number is to be included, it follows the year of publication after a colon:

Example: Chavez (1965:11)...

Help me out here. Why have you shared what you have in the OP? Were you looking for a discussion? I'm just trying to understand what you are offering that's not already covered here or here and about which authors would not already have been informed. Perhaps you simply want to create a reference thread?
