Thank You, PC Police

This is great, finally they're saying up front what they don't want people to say, so that we can plan ahead. And they're finally admitting that they don't consider America to be a Melting Pot:

The University of California s Insane Speech Police - The Daily Beast

And here we go, from the piece:

Saying, “There is only one race, the human race,” is offensive because it denies “the significance of a person of color’s racial/ethnic experience and history.”

“America is the land of opportunity,” implies that “People of color are lazy and/or incompetent and need to work harder.”

Asking an Asian, Latino, or Native American “why are you so quiet?” is tantamount to giving the order “assimilate to dominant culture.”

And stating the opinion, “Affirmative action is racist,” is a microaggression by default. But how are students and faculty supposed to have an intellectual discussion about the merits of affirmative action if anyone making the opposite case is automatically branded a racist?

And they include "Melting Pot" in the list. At least it's official now.

Thanks, PC Police, keep 'em coming, I know you will.

.

Interesting that you cherry pick the most marginal examples. And the origin of the hit piece is from Fox News and posted by a think tank tied to big tobacco and the Koch bros.

Overlooked...

Heading at the top of the list states:
The first step in addressing microaggressions is to recognize when a microaggression has occurred and what
message it may be sending. The context of the relationship and situation is critical.

Comment from UC spokeman:
"Given the diverse backgrounds of our students, faculty and staff, UC offered these seminars to make people aware of how their words or actions may be interpreted when used in certain contexts. Deans and department heads were invited, but not required, to attend the seminars,” University of California Office of the President spokeswoman Shelly Meron told FoxNews.com.
Is that supposed to be a defense? You're just highlighting their PC reasoning.

Thanks!

Here is your word for the day: context

Words and phrases can be totally benign or derogatory. It all depends on context of the relationship and situation.

I think Mac is trolling his own thread.

What is the penalty for a UC student who asks a Jap girl why she's being so quiet? I shudder to think of it.

No, it depends upon the phony hypersensitivity of the listener. Hypersensitivity then leveraged for advantage.

I think the only people Mac has conversations with here are on his iggy list.

I suppose you could call getting fellated by Staph and Mud a conversation...but not really.

Dude needs us.

As totally asinine a these all are, and they get even more ridiculous if you look at the longer list in the PDF on the referenced site, you have to understand one thing and take it in to account.
This is coming from a California college. California, the same state that cant even manage their water is trying to tell other people how not to speak.
It has been long recognized by real Americans that anything coming from California is only good for the laughter content.
And the funniest part?
its not PC to recognize someones race, but its not PC to not recognize someones race.. Gonna have a problem here.
and affirmative action IS racist and it does cause one to question the ability of those hired under it. Sorry, but its true.

Yeah.

But these people definitely recognize race. It's the first and most important (to them) thing they see. They are obsessed by skin color, because they know they can (still) leverage it to their advantage on a whim.

We don't hear about conservative PC on conservative campuses because there they just call PC 'the rules'.

Like this from Bob Jones U. Handbook:

"...if a student wishes to discuss an area of disagreement with a professor, he or she should go directly to that professor outside of class and respectfully present his or her concerns without fear of academic penalty. Airing complaints publicly in venues such as social media is not an appropriate means of resolving an issue...."

See? Conservative schools don't beat around the bush. They just make free speech a violation of the rules.
