It went away because the left tried to depict them as racist. That's cool because eventually every single minority's will eventually realize that the free market is superior. They are disproportionally affected by recessions which means these groups might start questioning whether or not the Democratic Party believes in the free market.

The 'tea party' was always a component of the GOP, a minority of angry, reactionary, ignorant republicans who only perceived government to be 'bad' when president Obama took office.

There is no real "tea party". Conservatives clearly had no place in the democrat party so the loosely formed conservative coalition decided to work within the political system and called itself the Tea Party even though a hundred conservative factions had different names and were singled out by Barry Hussein's IRS for harassment. The Tea Party activists are still alive and well and working within the system to nominate the best state and local candidates who are running this year while the GOP mainstream is working toward a presidential candidate more than a year away..
