Two critical words that I don't hear much about the abandonment of U.S. weapons, vehicles and whatnot...

SPARE PARTS!

You can have all the equipment in the world, but it is high-tech, is used in very difficult environments, and it breaks down. If the Afghans are smart (?) they might be able to cannibalize from other stuff for a while, then that stuff doesn't work anymore. Then they end up sitting in a desert, inert, and worthless.

The fears that this stuff will one day be used against us is not very likely.
