(Reuters) - Small volcanic eruptions help explain a hiatus in global warming this century by dimming sunlight and offsetting a rise in emissions of heat-trapping gases to record highs, a study showed on Sunday.

Eruptions of at least 17 volcanoes since 2000, including Nabro in Eritrea, Kasatochi in Alaska and Merapi in Indonesia, ejected sulfur whose sun-blocking effect had been largely ignored until now by climate scientists, it said.

Hmmm. Let me get this straight. In spite of man's massive efforts to pollute the skies, it's volcanoes that are really causing the problem? And perhaps changes in the sun? How can that be? That appears to be against everything the Globull Warming crowd is pitching to us.

We haven't had more then a VEI 2 since 1991. The last decade has been quite next to the 1990's and 1980's that seen the real warming...1984, 1991 are the noted events.

I think it has more to aerosols from China.

Another report by global scientists

While past increases in the atmosphere's carbon dioxide levels resulted from volcanoes and other natural causes, today that spike is due to human activities, the scientists note.

Is there an increase in volcanic activity? Yes, just like it did 56 million years ago.

Global scientist's say that the increase is because of more people in the world reporting eruptions rather than an increase in eruptions.

In other words, they think the increase in global volcanism is more apparent than real.

A Pinatubo type eruption will create a short lived cooling. A larger one, such as Tambora, would be a major catastrophe in todays world. However, they do not put out enough GHGs to be a significant factor in global warming or cooling. The only type of volcanism that does that is Trapp volcanism.

The present increase in GHGs is all most totally due to man's activities, specificall the burning of fossil fuels.
