State's lawmakers pass 66 percent income tax increase

this was a lame duck session that it was passed in to boot.

every surrounding state will to some extent see some extra relish on their revenue hot dog vis a vis bus. that can move moving . Wisconsin is giving 2 years tax free status to ant bus. that moves there or starts up.

Wonder what this list will look like a year from now.

Probably much the same, just downsized on how many people they hire to work for them. My point is more in that they raise taxes but lose the jobs/pay to tax people. This will hurt more than just income tax but what people spend and so on. They might still make gains with higher taxes but I doubt it will be as high as predicted.

It cost a lot to move a company...

It does, but it is a one-time cost. An increase in taxes is a gift that just keeps on giving.

This is why a company buys a $200,000 machine to reduce the workforce. The machine has the large initial cost and there is some maintenance, but the payroll and benefits eat that up pretty quickly.

I have personnaly seen my customers move their entire business to a state with more favorable tax policies. It bites. Can't blame them, though.

The state they leave is gambling that they just won't move. Those states usually continue gambling as they open casinos to replace the tax revenues.

The way to increase jobs is to make the environment favorable for those who have the means and ability to create jobs. If you chase away the job creators, you chase away the jobs. It really is that simple.

It happens within cities with high rates of crime and resulting high vandalism and low workforce retention.

It happens in states with the wrong combination of taxes and infrastructure and in countries with a poor ROI potential.

You don't create jobs by punishing the job creaters. You create jobs by rewarding the job createres.

Not to mention all the surrounding state government and commercial property owners are giving incentives. I heard the Missouri Governor on the radio talking about eliminating the corporate tax altogether. Daniels has talked about allowing any commericial property owner who helps with the moving costs to get reimbursed by the State. And some of these states and even talking about providing money to assist these companies with their moving costs!

Let's see, Illinois increases income tax 2% to a total of 5%...

They have a 6.25% sales tax rate...

2% motel/hotel tax...

Can't drive anywhere without paying a toll...

Cool!

Hey Illinios business and industry! Michigan is under 5% for income tax and sales tax is 6% and we have willing workers and surplus housing. Come on over!

Cook County is the largest and most populated County in the state. Its sales tax is 10% and 12% for prepared foods!

Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels: Illinois is Like The Simpsons

Indiana Governor spoke somewhat mockingly about the Illinois legislature’s lame duck legislation and governor Quinn who asked for it, saying "It's like living next door to the Simpsons -- the dysfunctional family down the block."

"You guys are nothing if not entertaining over there," he said with a laugh on the Don and Roma show on WLS-AM, Chicago.

In the interview he went on to say "If you want to bring new jobs to your state the last thing you do is make it more expensive to hire people, and so we've been working for six years, we're now at the top of everybody's list of a good place to do business, and going in the other direction really is something that we're not prepared to do, and I hope you guys find a way not to also," Daniels said.

There are vast areas of open land in Lake and La Porte Counties Indiana, just across the state line from Chicago, and poised for becoming a manufacturing area and an “intermodal” transportation hub.

“Intermodal,” simply put, is the exchange between one mode of transportation and another — typically, from rail to truck. It is projected that trade across rail and highways will double in the next 20 years, and there is no national strategy on how to deal with it presently. Daniels is the only political figure speaking to that important national problem.

The city of Gary, and the two county area located on the southern tip of Lake Michigan, are in the midst of every conceivable hub of transportation (surface, rail, ship and air), and have space galore available for development by business and industry. An expansion of that area into an intermodal hub provides immense economic potential.

Governor Daniels leased the Indiana Toll Road (a perpetual revenue loser) a few years back to an international consortium (for which he took a lot of heat from Democrats who ridiculed him as “the governor who sold the Indiana Toll Road to foreigners”,) and he also authored a plan to expand and improve Indiana’s transportation hub potential, partly with money from the toll road lease. He recently spent money from the toll road money to lengthen runways at the airport at Gary (Gary/Chicago International) to expand that potential.

God. I wish this guy would run for Prez.

So let me see if I understand all this;

Il is raising everthing while their neighbors cheer, mock and lower everything.
Daley, A born to the blue democrat says it's non-sense.
High taxes with high spending got them here, so they will cure it by increasing taxes and spending.

Good lord. The onlything that's going to be left are farmers, seniors to old to move, people on welfare and union members that will demand that taxes be increased to pay for their pensions.

Get out whild the gettin's good.

Sounds like it's time for the South, with it's smaller cities, agricultural interests, and semi fiscal conservatism to fight a war of secession against the more urban tax raising and spendthrift brothers in the north.

Where have I heard this scenario before......?

Carefull ther bossman. Not everyone has a sense of humor on USMB (shocking info, I know)

Worst case scenario for TX is that people from Il move in looking for jobs and lower taxes. Many, of course, would be moving with thier job, as some companies have plans of going to Tx already.

Illinois is in bad shape. Cutting entitlement spending wouldn't get them out of the hole. So what shut down the police? Schools? Come on. Its only temporary for a few years to pay off the debt.

Congrats to the Illinois government for doing the right thing that isn't the popular or electable thing. That what we should expect from our lawmakers. Making the hard choices to keep the government running and keep programs like the police, and schools open so we can have a better life.

You are completely delusional or under informed.

Tax and spend, then raise taxes to spend more is what's been done, it's what has gotten them to this point. And guess what? They are increasing spending again.

Illinois it proof positive that the tax and spend dems can't fix what they have broken.
To truly cut spending in Il you need to cut the union pensions. But they are to gutless to do that.

For those that don't know, his sig photo is real. There's a Metropolis Il. That's a real stature that goes with a Superman museum. (I shit you not)

Temporary taxes. Chances of getting them repealed is like betting on the Cubs to take the World Series.

I truly hate the accuracy of that comparison.

*sigh*

Wish you were wrong, on both.

Mayor Daley a tax and spend Democratic icon in IL is even highly critical of Governor Douche Bag's plan!

Daley says tax increase will send businesses out of state

Mayor Richard Daley today predicted the increase in the corporate income tax rate passed by state lawmakers overnight will prompt a quiet exodus of jobs to neighboring states.

"Businesses don't have press conferences like this and announce they're moving 50 people out, 60 people out, 70 people," Daley said.

The comments of the Democratic mayor, who is not seeking re-election in February, echoed those made by Republican lawmakers as the Legislature sent the tax increase to Gov. Pat Quinn overnight with just the votes of Democrats who control the House and Senate. Quinn, a fellow Democrat, is expected to sign it.

"We have a new governor-elect in Wisconsin, a lot of competition comes from Wisconsin (Gov.) Mitch Daniels from Indiana, a lot of competition," Daley said at a City Hall
.
I see the Illinois state gov't., the fed. gov't. have something in common. they both pass socialist bills that steal our money in the dark of night just like crooks do, wait, they ARE crooks!!!

Nothing will change as long as they have money coming in.
