The USA is looking more like the USSR every day.

Online war between liberals and conservatives in US obscures real threat of government censorship

With sudden suspensions and hasty banning sprees, social media giants are censoring more than ever. High-profile spats between liberals and conservatives often grab the spotlight — but that's the tip of the censorship iceberg.

Liberal rage mobs calling for provocative conservatives to be “cancelled” or “deplatformed” are loud — and they attract plenty of attention both on social media and across centrist and liberal-leaning mainstream media.

The simultaneous banishment of right-wing agitator Alex Jones from major platforms last year was a litmus test; a way to gauge whether such bans would be palatable to the mainstream. When few raised their voices to object, the corporations had their answer: It was going to be easy to push out similar voices — and they could probably even start to widen the net.

Truthfully, most of the internet and social media censorship comes from the left.

When I got banned they said it was Standards that was the reason. I just posted a cut from their news section cut a paste. I got they biggest laugh of the day and won 44 dollars from a friend. Big deal. I think I will just stay away from them...

Government censorship? What the public is experiencing is media censorship and to confound things a little more it seems that the media relies on foreign agents to attack the President.

Anyone who thinks they can censor the internet is a fucking idiot.

IF the 2nd nutters were 1/2 as crazy for the 1st, we'd be something here.

But it's more than flat out Gub'Mit censorship these days, in fact it's gone quite the disinformation path, in that so many sign onto the narrative the Gub'mit propagates

Take a bow George

Well that's nice. But why all the outcry from the left and the libertarians over net neutrally awhile back?
Net neutrality is a different but related issue where ISPs now get to pick and choose which websites get the necessary bandwidth to operate. It's like creating an artificial shortage in order to jack up prices on startups and protect social media companies from competition.

rush limbaugh said "leave only some liberals left alive"....as a reminder to future generations.

ann coulter said "we should shoot a few liberals" to let the rest know it can happen to them.

isn't death the ultimate censorship?

I have seen conservatives (on this board) declare LIBERALS to be TRAITORS and liberalism to be an evil ideology.

Do you think evil ideologies should be promoted in schools and on the air?

shouldn't evil ideologies be banned and CENSORED?

....which would have denied the lower-income from as much access to information. as opposed to those who could afford better providers.

How would that not be "internet censorship"? And why was the left so adamantly opposed to it?

When was the ideology of hatred toward the left ever presented in any American educational institution?

Never, as far as I know. Now compare that with the climate on the Berkeley or any other campus in this country.

It is in a way but not for ideological reasons. It's about money. Defeating net neutrality was all about ISPs being able to squeeze more money out of providing the internet and having a say in what users can access.

The real heart of fake news isn't censorship

More dumb constituents who believe 'lying pols'

They'll run amok insisting their opinion fact ,accusing all that oppose or question it

One can read it daily here Gramps

Why need Gub'Mit censor anything , when they can get the populace to do it for them....
