This is not a theory, it is not even an idea; it is an absurd assumption which even five minutes of Google investigation would have dispelled.

Your antipathy is misplaced. Can the midwest buy and consume all it produces? No? Then it is a reciprocal (and codependent) relationship that you have with the people in the cities your goods are sold at. Does it have it's own ports to ship to other countries? Then your producers have a reciprocal (and dependent) relationship with the points of departure. Is the midwest completely self-contained? Are there NO goods and services you consume that you get from the metropolis? Think hard on that one.

Those Cities CREATE next to nothing. All they do is collect the money for the products that were made, mined or grown in other parts of the United States and pay the taxes on it.

THAT is why they show a disproportionate amount of GDP.

A Company in Ohio builds a Twenty Million Machine that they're shipping to Germany.

The German Company signs a contract to buy it and it is shipped to a Port in either New Yawk Shitty or Land of Bad Air (Chicago).

It is at THAT POINT that the machine is paid for by the German Company. Once it arrives at the Port of Call and is delivered to the Shipper, it is at that time that the money changes hands.

Even though the entire State of New Yawk or Illinois contributed not one fucking penny or one minute to the creation of the machine, they get the credit for the money.

And here's just one reason among many why....

Ohio has a Sales Tax.

If the money changes hands inside the borders of Ohio, Sales Tax MUST be paid.

On a $20 Million machine-- That's a lot of money.

If the money changes hands at a Port of Entry or Departure (usually one side of the same port) then no Sales Taxes are charged.

Also, the buyer doesn't want to pay for something ($20 Million) and have it risk being in a Train Wreck on the way to the Port.

Once the shipper takes possession of the cargo, he has a MILLIONS of dollars worth of Insurance that automatically apply to the product.
