Since the Liberals Suddenly Embrace "Competition & Choice"...

You just made the point. Private schools destroy public schools as far as educational outcomes are concerned. Even Obama understands this.

I think he was saying that where he is private schools DON'T compete well with public schools. In NY it depends on where you live and whether your child qualifies for specialized programs by either being gifted and talented or having special needs. I think sometimes the average kids get a little lost in the system.

But, ultimately, it comes down to whethe you wand the public school system destroyed by taking all funding out of it and shifting it to private institutions.

I'm against. And I'm particularly against taking money out of public schools and illegally supporting religious institutions. You?

Ah. My mistake.

Yes, I'm against any school voucher program whatsoever.

Since the Liberals Suddenly Embrace "Competition & Choice" regarding Healthcare, then why don't they go ahead and Advocate for the same for Public Schools?...

Of course what they and Obama are Proposing in Healthcare is NOT Competition, but since they are tossing it around like it is, I'd like them to Explain to me why "Competition and Choice" should not be Extended to Schooling.

:)

peace...

That state of affairs already exists, doesn't it?

There are public schools which everybody can attend, and then there are private schools for those who want them and can afford them.

Is that essantially what the Obama plan is creating in HC?

Or have I completely missed your point, somehow?

nope--you nailed it. Promotion of class warfare.
The ones who are successful playing capitalism can buy get any health care they want--they just also have to shell out to pay for a socialist heaelthcare system for those who can't or won't play.

so? we have paid more in property taxes for OTHER children's schooling for decades now, and have less saved for us, than we have paid in these property taxes for other peoples kids.... shit happens, i seriously doubt it affects their bottom line as much as other regressive taxes on the middle class do....

we shell out for their businesses and banks and AIG's....and airports/FAA etc....war profiteering too.... this isn't one sided dillo, acting as though it is, is intellectually dishonest imo.

my point exactly---those that are more succesful at capitalism bail out those who don't play it or are less successful at it. The poorer you are the less money you contribute to the welfare of others.

Not really. The poor people buy the products of capitalism. Capitalists would make nothing without the poor.

Why don't the public schools examine what the private schools are doing right, and then model them? Instead they just throw more money at the problem.Same with healthcare. They want to throw the baby out with the bath water.

poor people spend less

What an odd thing to try to contrast. Right now, there are private schools, or there's a public school for those who can't afford or won't be accepted by private schools. And then there's charter schools, which are somewhere in between the two. It's actually a fairly similar system to what's being proposed for healthcare, though I hadn't really thought about it that was til you pointed it out.

So? Quantity.

More please----I'd love to see you argue how the poor are stimulating our economy.
I know you aren't this stupid, Dillo. Imagine if all the poor people actually stopped spending money. The economy would grind to a halt.

right--and there is a huge possiblitiy of that happening.
Come on, Ravi----people HAVE to spend money or they die.

True enough. But they don't have to spend it on any particular capitalist's product.

I just wish the "poor" in our community would make wiser purchasing decisions. The poor kids in my school show up in expensive clothes and sneakers but without a calculator of breakfast.

It clearly is NOT...

It's the Reverse of what we see in Healthcare...

The Government is Attempting to Monopolize Healthcare like they have Education.

I Pay for Public Schools... And if I put my Child in Private, I Pay for (2) Schools.

Terrible Analogy, E.

Prove it. Private education institutions are thriving. Why shouldn't health care? Why are private insurance groups so afraid of a competitive public plan? Using your rationale - that should help spur more competition and lower prices.

P.S. - I have no children, yet I pay for schooling. I'll be damned if I'm going to subsidize private education too.

Chaos...

Because they can't Compete with a Blank Check...

A Blank Check held by the Regulators of the Industry that this "Competition" is Supposedly happening in...

I don't Know why some Liberals can't Understand some of the Words in our Language and their Meanings...

Or this Basic Concept that is so Painfully Obvious, a Gradeschooler can Grasp it.

I haven't seen any numbers on this but private schools are not "thriving" in my area. Catholic schools are shutting down left and right. I suspect my kids school will close within the next two years. The athletics programs in public schools are far superior. And if we were truly honest, we would admit that we value sports more than education. How much do athletes get paid?

The trend started long before January. The economy was booming a few years ago. What's killing many private (and oublic) high schools in NJ are the charter schools. They are essentially taxpayer funded private schools. Parents have a role and if Johnny doesn't make the grade or follow the rules he's "expelled" back to the public school. Who can compete with that?
