Why don't the Democrats end the shutdown by agreeing to fund the border wall like they did in the past?

What changed between now and then? Trump is the President and cannot e allowed to keep a campaign promise, or he will walk in the next election instead of running.

Back pay will be decided on by Congress, but it still needs Trump's approval which he shouldn't give. It doesn't matter to Trump because most government employees are Democrats anyway. He won't be losing much in the way of votes.

Only if those fed jobs were eliminated. The economy is still going strong in spite of Democrats, but I'm sure their antics in the coming months will put a stop to that.
