Should PORN be allowed at PUBLIC LIBRARIES?

I think you've lost me...

Never mind. My fingers got ahead of my brain. I thought you said something else.. My point is, we're not fighting tooth and nail for welfare recipients to be required to take drug tests, because it's not "cost effective", but we're worried about what goes into someone elses local library.

I would like to see welfare recipients and medicaid recipients to have negative nicotine tests in order to get their assistance. If you have enough money to spend $5+ per day on cigarettes, you have enough money to buy a meal.

now I will vote for that.

right now sad to say it's the lying democrats. sorry! I do borrow a lot of books from the library. I donate a lot too. I just wash my hands a lot too.

Then you're probably one of the few.. Most people haven't stepped in one since they got out of school...which I'd say is evidenced by the fact that you can drive by practically any library you can find it, and you'll find it close to empty. Most people now do to Barnes & Noble, or Borders when they want to lounge around and read, or get any form of reading material, or other media.

our local library is very busy. all of the time. not only books are available but cd's and dvd's they offer computer classes and most local artists display their work there. They also have a small used book store. I still buy some books,, the ones I'm not willing to wait for, and usually I end up donating them to the library when I am through. The public library is one of those places nowadays that is worth it's money. and speaking of money Diz,, handling used books is no different really than is handling money.

Typo, or have you reverted to name-calling?

xotoxi is right about community standards. If the public wants to allow it, they should be able to. If they don't, it should be restricted. Just like adult bookstores and topless bars. And fucking in public.

not name calling, I just misspelled it. Dis. you know how I spell fizzics?

Absolutely none, to me. However, it's not for me to decide what someone else should be allowed to read. That said... so long as kids under 18 don't have access to it, because it's in a restricted area, what do you care?

Like you could have kept my testosterone filled body out of a restricted area in my mid teens, i would have found a way in.

All a kid today needs is a computer, and they can see all the porn they want, and they do. Hell they wouldn't NEED to sneak into the library for that. They take naked pictures of each other with their phones and pass them around. I'm afraid our youth have already been bombarded with porn by simply proxy of modern day electronics.

dude i was in school in the late 80's early 90's.......i guess my post made me date myself :).

And since you made the point that porn is everywhere online, we dont need to spend tax money to put it in a public library.

For a rinky dinky town, my library is absolutely *huge*.. 2 levels, I think, and it's always empty. Given the size of it, tho, and the fact that West Bend only has (I think) 3 schools, it wouldn't surprise me if they do have a porn section...and this is a pretty conservative town..

68 posts into the discussion, and I haven't been called a "lib" yet. I'm rather stunned.

Very, very interesting debate taking place in Michigan:

As books, it depends on the definition of "porn" and what's being classified as such. Many educational materials are considered porn by some, and most classic art is considered porn by these people definition. Nudity, as I say, is fine and sexual learning materials should be available. But flat out "porn" (nothing but sex for the purpose of sexual arousal) no, taxes shouldn't be spent on that.

Porn is available for free on the internet. Providing it in public libraries would be a waste of resources and would create an atmosphere not conducive to scholarly research.

Local taxpayers should make the call as it were. If a lot of people start going blind, or suffering from Priaprism, that would not be good.

Porn should only be allowed at public libraries on two conditions. 1) The library must have plenty of lotion and tissues on hand. 2) No bestiality. You don't want someone thinking you are sick and twisted as you fap away in the midst of people around you reading books and periodicals.
