Should Donald Rumsfeld Be Pleased With Himself?

Did he perform as expected, as he should have during his time at The Bush Administration?

Did he do a good job?

If so, please explain...

say what you want... 'n feel free to disagree with him (as I do) 'bout how he did things...

but gotta hand it to the guy...

Rumsfeld knew how to control the dumb-shit monkey in the White House...
That's not saying much...he also knew how to BS the American public, and your people, you know the hard RWers followed him and the rest of the kronies down the depths of the rabid.

Why? Are you people really that partisan?

Clearly you are.

The man was as much of a failure as Bush, if not moreso, cause even Bush had to fire his crazy, lying, hard RW A$$.

Hmm Rumsfeld or Hagel? Yeah, that puts it in perspective right there.
Rumsfeld is one of the most accomplished Sec Defs in history. Both the youngest and oldest man to hold the job.
Did he make mistakes? Probably. But I can't see Chuck No Responsibility Hagel carrying out anything remotely comparable to what Rumsfeld pulled off.
What did Rumsfelf "pull off?"

Are you actually PRAISING that bastard lying the entire country, and thus the world into unnecessary, costly and failed wars?

Really?!?!?

I was a linguist, and then I spent time in the 4077st Transportation Squadron at F.E. Warren AFB.

I was at Warren...1968 to 1971...missile crew commander.

I was the base taxi driver and delivered dinner to a Command Post once. Were you in there? j/k I was there in 1979/80.

I grew up with a friend also called Mark who spent 29 years in the Air Force and started out as an Aerospace Tracking and Warning specialist. He watched for almost 20 years for the missiles that were under that control. His last 10 years of assignment were with NASA, and he said that he was a satellite geek, ending as a Senior Airman.

I loved Warren and Cheyenne. A friend of mine who was in the OSI went with me many times to get high, driving around there. We had a ball. Good times.
By "high" I assume you went up into the mountains????

Rumsfeld is a truly evil man. One of only a few in the entire world I believe that about. It's astonishing to me that there are still some republicans that have the balls to try to defend him. He was kicked out of office in shame because of the damage he did to this country and his embarrassing, and damn near criminal, mismanagement of our soldiers and their needs in the 2 wars he insisted on starting.

It just goes to show that for far too many low-information voters, that it's just a game to them. Their side vs. the other side. As long as they cheer for their side and make it seem as if he's winning...it's good.

In their feeble and twisted minds that is.

Sad. Very sad.

I'll admit to not knowing who was responsible for allowing post invasion Baghdad to fall into lawlessness.

Order should have been kept.

But the decision to use a smaller invasion force was vindicated by the results.

They invaded and defeated Saddam's forces, the fifth largest army on Earth, pretty convincingly.

And an argument can be made that dismantling and firing all of the law enforcement mechanisms and officers and officials was a good idea because otherwise you'd have an inherent bunch of insurgents in power and with guns who were certain to not go along with the new paradigm. better to not have them burrowing deeper into the new government where they could cause problems from within.

What CAN be faulted out of this whole experience was the decision to NOT police Iraq as we policed Germany or japan after WWII.

That IMHO will be the one major lesson from this invasion.

A defeated government must be replaced by the occupier's government and law enforcement until the new government can police it's people effectively.

Whether Rummy or Paul Bremmer or someone else was responsible for that call, I don't know.

Otherwise, I think Rummy did a fantastic job.

He and his like are under investigation against the values of America for torturing during the terror campaigns. :eusa_shhh:

There was nothing evil about him or his performance as Sec Def. The fact that you believe so is a testament to your diet of Liberal Media.

State, for the record, what he did that was evil.

Whatever you post will likely be countered with the facts and the truth of the matter, which you will deny.

But, what the hell, I'll attempt to ferret out the truth again.

Abu Graib and other incidents in the field were not done by his order. He hated those abuses. It hurt our troops and our nation's efforts to establish order and keep casualties low.

Military generals do the best they can.

Rummy was a "Military general"?
Actually Rummy extended the war from the very beginning when he chose to send a downsized force from what was recommended by at least two generals. Of course those generals got fired, the war went on way too long until someone finally got an idea, "let's add more troops and call it a "surge"". If they had used the "surge" numbers in the beginning, the war in Iraq would of been over much earlier because the US finally gained control of Iraq. How many troops died because of Rummy's miscalculations?
So, in two words, "Rummy sucked"!

You forget that the world exists in all it's wondrous complexity in 3D and not on paper.

In the real world the Bush administration was trying to determine how it could reduce military spending and still maintain a viable military force capable of fighting two major wars and a smaller regional conflict simultaneously.

Studies on paper had suggested that a smaller, harder hitting invasion force might be able to replace the old traditional way of doing things.

Progressives who want to change things in America to make things better should have loved this idea.

Especially because they saw that it was successful.

What WASN'T successful was the peace keeping component that came AFTER the smaller invasion force idea was proven successful.

In your Progressive media attempts to demonize the enemy (Bush & Co) they never mentioned the facts of the matter.

They left you under armed in this battle over what is true and what is not.

What you are left with and are trying to win this debate with are incomplete facts and propaganda.

When you look at the facts you will begrudgingly conclude that Rummy was spot on.

A smaller invasion force worked splendidly and having proved that, allowed the US to cut down it's expected military needs of men and materials from now on. A conclusion that could only be determined in a real life scenario.

Luckily for the proponents of that strategy, it worked.

The problem you attribute to Rummy wasn't really of his making and it only occurred after the invasion and only because SOMEONE allowed Iraq to fall into lawlessness.

That is why the SURGE was necessary.

NOT because more men were needed from the start.

If they had established order in Iraq immediately, things would have gone FAR better than they did.

And that, if I'm not mistaken, was not Rummy's fault.

But so many people concluded he was responsible for the problems in Iraq Bush HAD to dismiss him as a political liability.

Anyone who knows the facts and the truth understands this.

I think.

Considering Rumsfeld has not been in a public office or part of any administration since 2006 whats the point of this thread? Other than as a distraction from the less than stellar job being done by the current administration.

Is that what you tell yourself about those 6 years?

Makes sense I guess...

He opened his mouth a couple of days ago. First time since he joked about torture at the Cheney roast.

No, the civilized winter ways in Wyoming were enough for us. While I drove, we'd get stoned tripping on the northern snowy escape afforded us. My friend and I were not concerned about that, and Kevin said he busted fellow enlisted for drugs but only SP's.

True. I guess this is just another step along the way of him being forgotten by history.
