SCHOOL SUCKS: The American Way...

It's condensed for one simple reason, the volume of information it would take to show the uneducated how superficial this video is would fill this entire board many times over. I could recommend a few dozen books for you to read if you want enlightenment as opposed to ideological justification.

The producer of this video explained & articulated the history & reality of Government-Run Schools perfectly. However, you have not expressed or articulated your opposing view effectively at all. It is what it is.

Perfectly for someone who has little knowledge of a complex subject or purposefully omitting entire relative historical and cultural aspects that would blow his hypothesis out of the water. Again if you want a dissertation, research it and write it yourself but I see you're much more interested in hyperbolic propaganda. Go figure.

Again, the producer of this video has articulated the history and reality of Government-Run Schools perfectly. You have not expressed or articulated a coherent opposing response. So far you've only made feeble attempts at condescending insults. Did you actually watch the video? Because now i have to question whether or not you really watched the video.

This video is fascinating. It shows you where we got our current Government-run School System model from. It's very fascinating, but also very disturbing.

Yes we were so much better with a 50% literacy rate where a poor person had little opportunity to rise above their appointed station in the farm field or factory floor. Education is the ladder out of poverty, why are you attacking it without offering a viable alternative? Don't say home school, there is more to an education than a latchkey kid studying alone behind a locked door and a fearful parent insulating them from the harsh realities and uncomfortable truths of the world.

Unfortunately, many spend 8+ years getting advanced degrees in women's or Latin studies and then are amazed to find that their education is completely worthless and they'd have been better served learning plumbing.

Excellent point.

I watched it and having studied history and sociology in detail I found it to be severely lacking. I pointed out in an earlier post which of these aspects were not found in the video, apparently you either missed it or chose to ignore it.
As for "feeble attempts at condescending insults", the concept feeble is condescendingly and feebly applied. Oh well.
Basically if you're going to promote an idea then it would behoove you to have all the facts, not just those that agree with your premise. By doing such you stand a good chance of not having to endure condescending, feeble attempts at insults..........

Were you schooled in the public school system?

I was, and I barely survived. I still have nightmares as a result of my experiences in public schools. They sucked the very will to live out of me. I can't imagine anything more stultifying, degrading and mind destroying than a public school.

I bet your teachers were surprised to hear that you did not find school an educational experience.

I was not surprised that you would resort to such a cheap ad hominem rather than use facts and logic to defend your position.

That's because you're a total fucking dingbat.

I am not surprised that you find the truth about your teachers' knowledge of your worth offensive.

I wouldn't be surprised to hear that your school was glad to see the back side of you.

The nazis had super highways so 4 lane divided roads are nazi?
The nazis had Porsche and Mercedes so they are nazi?

The nazis had lots of things that are not in and of themselves bad things, using them as an example of why our education system is screwed is to ignore the real problems, lack of funding and parental involvement or is that somehow nazi too?

the video doesn't claim that schools caused the ride in socialism or fascism, it is saying it was used to create subservience to the power structure at the time, which at that time happened to be socialist (the opposite of fascism- I don't know why you lumped them in the same sentence). While I will agree that schools are messed up and they are trying to keep us dumb so we continue to buy and be good little consumers, I don't see what that has to do specifically with socialism. i believe schools do create a subservience to the current capitalist system so people are not encouraged to question the system whatsoever, whatever the system may be, so that those in power can remain in power unhindered while making themselves more and more powerful everyday at the expense of liberty for the rest of us. We sit back and take it, because people are too afraid.

Fuck all the Nazi crap, the school system was set up 100 years before the Nazi's.

Occupied, how the hell do you consider $10K/year per student a "lack of funding"?

If you want parental involvement, raise responsible kids! The problem of parental involvement is rooted in the nanny state "Let the Government take care of it." mindset that you folks on the Left seem to cherish so much.

100 years of this indoctrination has had it's desired effect.

Nanny state my ass, the lack of parental involvement has everything to do with the necessity of a two income household rather than any fantasy of lazy dependent parents. Today's workplace robs people of a tremendous amount of time at home with their families, especially if there is a sizable commute involved.

What'd ya expect? The left has replaced fathers with gubmint checks. And now commute times are to blame?

That's priceless.

You are correct, the School System was set up 100 years before the Nazis. But the Prussian Government-Run School System did have a big impact on the rise of the Nazis.

The main problem with American schools is that the focus is on sports rather than on education. This may explain why European students are so far advanced in comparison. We need to de-emphasize sports in schools and there should not be acres devoted to parking lots and sports fields and stadiums. School is for EDUCATION, period. European children and Europeans in general are among the most fit in the world, especially when comparing them to Americans. European children, those interested in sports, go to after-school clubs to participate in sports. In Europe, the emphasis is on foreign languages. Also, European schools do not have parking lots for students.

Walk into any American high school and what do you see in the lobby display cases? Sports trophies. Where are the science projects?

I am deeply ashamed of this country in many aspects but in particular in the area of education. The driving age should be raised to 18. There are more, far more, students 16-18 killed in car crashes than from all diseases combined. The driving age MUST be raised.

Very interesting video about how Government-run Schooling contributed to the rise of Socialism, Imperialism and eventually Fascism in Germany between the 1890s and 1940s.

Some comments from the video's producer...

In my 10+ years of teaching, "school sucks" is perhaps the most common phrase I've heard students use to describe their feelings about public education. But this seemingly bitter and reductive slogan is actually quite clever. When taken literally, "school sucks" is perhaps the most accurate and astute synopsis of the system I've ever heard. Here's why...

1. The twelve-year process of an American public education has a dramatic effect on the mind of a child. When we first enter school at age six, many of our best personal attributes are already in place. We are curious, innovative, unique, creative and hopeful in ways that we will rarely be able to replicate throughout the rest of our lives. But over time, school sucks those essential attributes out of too many of us...and replaces them with predictability, obedience and apathy...
