SCHOOL SUCKS: The American Way...

I saw a feature on one of the news channels where a reporter asked a woman on the street what country the Eiffel Tower was in. She said, "Massachusetts."

And we worry about voter ID's. Maybe we should worry more about their IDeas.

Sad. Very Sad.

Very interesting video about how Government-run Schooling contributed to the rise of Socialism, Imperialism and eventually Fascism in Germany between the 1890s and 1940s.

Some comments from the video's producer...

In my 10+ years of teaching, "school sucks" is perhaps the most common phrase I've heard students use to describe their feelings about public education. But this seemingly bitter and reductive slogan is actually quite clever. When taken literally, "school sucks" is perhaps the most accurate and astute synopsis of the system I've ever heard. Here's why...

1. The twelve-year process of an American public education has a dramatic effect on the mind of a child. When we first enter school at age six, many of our best personal attributes are already in place. I received two letters from my youngest child's school regarding three tardy's in two different trimesters.
The letter stated that if the tardy's continued, there would be an 'intervention'.

I did not receive any letters when her grades were tanking a few years ago. I had to hire a tutor over the summer to get her up to speed.

I did not receive any letters when she had two straight years of perfect attendance.

Is there something wrong with this scenario?

Wait....you don't do anything or know anything about your daughter's grades and attendance UNLESS the school notifies you? Is this your complaint? Really?
