Sweden has been socialist for decades, and over time Sweden has moderated its socialism.

I guess the formula doesn't work all the time.

In fact, what countries ever went from socialism to communism?

Sweden collapsed financially in early 1990s after almost 70 years of Social Democratic rule

In these 20 years they have lowered the tax revenue (as a share of GDP) from 65% to 46%, cut the corporate tax to a nominal rate of 25%, cut taxes on property and wealth, privatized government companies, balanced the budget, deregulated markets, created school vouchers... Even Cato and Heritage recognize that Scandinavians enjoy much more economic freedom than France, Spain, Italy, etc

The swedish finance minister talking about wealthy entrepreneurs: "In most cases, the company would not have been created without the owner. There would be no Ikea without [Ingvar] Kamprad. We would not have Tetra-Pak without Rausing. They are probably the foremost entrepreneurs we have had in the last few decades, and both moved out of Sweden (...) They were not rich when they were starting out, but they were becoming rich. If you have a high wealth tax and an inheritance tax, people emigrate because it becomes too costly to own a company. Ownership is a production factor. Entrepreneurs are a production factor. Yes, these people are rich and you can obviously argue that we want to encourage social cohesion. But it is also problematic if you drive out entrepreneurs from your country, because they are the source of job creation."
