'S.C. Republican: Aid like feeding strays'

Oddly enough, I agree with Ravi on the last post.:ack-1: School lunches do not encourage the bad behavior because it is the child that is receiving the aid directly and the parent never really sees that aid. The aid should be set far lower than it is now though. 40k is WAY too high to be considered poor enough to need government money for food. It is true that giving aid does encourage the bad behavior and laws are actually structured to KEEP people poor. This NEEDS to change. Drug testing would be an excellent start.

I go to work every day and put my life on the line for this country. I work my ass off sometimes 12 hours a day for months straight without days off. There are times I cannot see my son for months at a time and even times I am not allowed to even call my family over the phone. I am required to pass a drug test to keep my job and receive my pay. What is baffling is that the government then feels justified in taking from me that very same money that I have worked so hard for and sacrificed so much for and give it to someone else that does NOTHING all day long and then smacks me in the face by not even requiring that individual to take the same drug test that I must take. Where the hell does uncle same get off doing this. I am NOT fortunate, I WORKED for what I have and the path that I have taken is open to anyone and yet I, along with other taxpayers, am forced to sustain the lifestyle of people that refuse to work. The poverty level in this country is also a joke. It stems from the insane addiction to credit that we have as a nation. At 30k a year I lived VERY comfortably and did not consider myself poor.

To the Hitler crowd – This has nothing to do with the OP or anything for that matter. Hitler was no where near a socialist. He was a dictator. Socialism wants everyone to own everything and dictatorship wants everything for itself. I don’t care who or what he agreed with/respected. It does not matter. Bring up that monster here does nothing as no one here, including the subject of the OP, is ANYTHING like Hitler.

To the OP – What he said was totally correct – HOW he said it was stupid. Using lunches as a point and ‘encouraging breeding’ makes him sound hostile and rather radical. ‘Encourages that behavior to continue/increase’ and starting at welfare would have been far more intelligent. I do not defend those idiotic comments because I cannot see why he went with the points/examples that he gave.

Slavery is a cherished tradition among South Carolina Republicans.

Interesting revision of history. I am not aware of any Republicans that owned slaves in South Carolina. If I'm not mistaken, they were the ones who freed them.

We should listen to what South Carolina has to say about poverty.

Being one of the poorer states in the nation, they are experts in the field.

No one feeds My children but Me.

But I could feed them better if My government didn't think that the way to win votes and remain in power is to create dependence among the populace.

I'll bet if a poll could be taken of all those cats on that farm, every one of them would have voted to keep the farmer in charge....right up until the farmer couldn't feed them anymore.

Funny things is. They would vote him out even though they were the reason he could not feed them anymore.

But if they could feed themselves.....why the possibilities are limitless.

But as I said. The leftist mindset is to focused upon gaining, holding and exercising power of the masses to understand the lesson. It will be the end of us all, that mindset.

Now excuse Me. I plan on doing a bit of homework and then watching the Saints kick the Vikings ass.

You get a major tax cut because you have children. You get a handout from the government, because you have children, that those of us who don't have children don't get.

You are as much a stray feeding off the government as are the poor kids getting a free school breakfast. And you don't even have to be poor to get it.

That is not a handout because it is not extra money that you did not earn. If a person were to get taxed less for having kids but have zero income they would not receive any money whatsoever so tax cuts are not handouts because you would get extra money from them regardless.

It's a handout because it reduces those person's tax obligation and shifts it to people who don't have children. I remember some time ago one year my federal income tax, with no dependents, was about $4000. A person I work with, with 2 kids, and everything else pretty much equal, paid federal income tax of about $950. THAT is a handout for having kids.

Now, does that encourage breeding?

The same article says this:

Maybe he realized he said something stupid and backtracked, maybe he deliberately said that to pander to those who do see that way...
Or maybe he didn't take into consideration that starving them would result in even lower test scores.

Why would they starve?

What about all the money and food stamps they get?
Is it too much to ask Parents to even make a meal for their children?

According to Bauer's 'logic' those programs should go too.

I wonder, is this guy running for office on a promise to refuse federal money for school lunches?

Maybe a better idea would be something like government run soup kitchens. Instead of giving people money, just feed them three meals a day. And if they need to earn extra, they can work in the soup kitchen.

All I have to say is.....

GEAUX SAINTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Republicans solution - "Kill those lazy bastards!"

Funny, Republicans are raising an entire generation of "breeders" with not even a High School Diploma. Stop feeding them for Gawd's sake.

UPDATE: And in unsurprising news:

CNN Political Ticker: All politics, all the time Blog Archive - South Carolina Republican regrets ’stray animal’ metaphor - Blogs from CNN.com

In a phone interview with CNN, Bauer, a Republican candidate for governor, said, "I wish I had used a different metaphor." Bauer told an audience Friday that people receiving government assistance are like "stray animals" because "they breed" and "don't know any better."

"I never intended to tie people to animals," he said, before opting for a kinder animal metaphor: "If you have a cat, if you take it in your house and feed it and love it, what happens when you go out of town?"

Noting that he has raised money for a group that protects animals, Bauer also said he is "not against animals."

Asked about criticism from his political opponents, Bauer argued that many voters in South Carolina agree with him. He said he is only telling hard truths that have been swept under the rug for decades and called for a "mature discussion" about welfare in South Carolina. He said he has spoken about the issue for months, and not once has a voter objected.

Because calling people who are on any sort of government assistance "stray animals" in the first place is a good way to start a "mature conversation."

I thought to not name call during "mature discussions" was one of those things you learn in elementary school. Though maybe some of the kids can try to pay attention to those lessons while they go hungry because Bauer here cut their lunches. :eusa_think:

Just sayin.

Hitler was a socialist, too....He even professed his admiration for Marx in "Mein Kaumpf".

Historical revisionist myth: Busted.

...The Jewish doctrine of Marxism rejects the aristocratic principle of Nature and replaces the eternal privilege of power and strength by the mass of numbers and their dead weight. Thus it denies the value of personality in man, contests the significance of nationality and race, and thereby withdraws from humanity the premise of its existence and its culture. As a foundation of the universe, this doctrine would bring about the end of any order intellectually conceivable to man. And as, in this greatest of all recognizable organisms, the result of an application of such a law could only be chaos, on earth it could only be destruction for the inhabitants of this planet.
If, with the help of his Marxist creed, the Jew is victorious over the other peoples of the world, his crown will be the funeral wreath of humanity and this planet will, as it did thousands of years ago, move through the ether devoid of men.
That was from Hitler's book.

It sounds to me that you have more in common with Hitler than anyone here.

I quoted Goebbels yesterday, where he said that National Socialism opposes Liberalism both in theory and practice, and the wingnut response I got?

...that Goebbels just made that up to fool people.

I swear.

That IS funny in a sad kind of way.

And the world yawned. Meantim, Clinton muses about the good ole days when negros still fetched us coffee!!!

He's sorry he called them stray animals but he still wants the poor children of SC to starve to death.

Awesome.

What conclusion can one come to after reading this?

"Bauer, who's running for the Republican nomination for governor, made his remarks during a town hall meeting in Fountain Inn that included state lawmakers and about 115 residents, according to a Greenville News account written by Nathaniel Cary.

“My grandmother was not a highly educated woman, but she told me as a small child to quit feeding stray animals. You know why? Because they breed. You're facilitating the problem if you give an animal or a person ample food supply."

Joe Bageant: One party has no heart, the other no spine
There you have the republican philosophy. I've got mine ... tough for you.

Which is why Conservatives routinely outrank Liberals in private charity.
The Democratic Party's philsophy is: I've got mine, you can have someone else's. So we are treated to the spector of multi millionaires like Kennedy voting to raise taxes on hard working Americans to redistribute to lazy Americans in return for their vote.

Actually, all we know for sure is that Conservatives routinely outrank Liberals in BRAGGING about their private charity.

The Southern Democrats were conservative and became republicans because of civil rights legislation. I'm sure you must know that.

Hint hint... it isn't bragging if you actually DO IT.

You've gotta love that con logic, huh?
