Ruble Crash Casts Pall Over Rates as Food Prices Bring No Relief

Russia is already into a second recession this year and the Ruble continues it's tumble downward. Multiple local governments in Russia are already defaulting on their debt and the Russian standard of living has fallen dramatically in the last 2 years.

But since Putin sent warplanes to Syria against the US (ie against Obama...) the Right is in a romantic showmance with Putin and glorifying him any chance they get for destroying ISIS (which he isn't doing...) and being the "brave leader" that Obama isn't supposedly.

You think obama is a "brave leader"?

It all depends on how brisk Russian arms sales become as a result of this Syria excursion. I'm neutral on this subject.

The private intelligence firm Strategic Forecast or Stratfor, made this prediction last June. It is part of an annual forecast where they give a decade long prediction of how the world is changing. Here is a clip of what they predicted for Russia:

Russia will collapse ...

"There will not be an uprising against Moscow, but Moscow's withering ability to support and control the Russian Federation will leave a vacuum," Stratfor warns. "What will exist in this vacuum will be the individual fragments of the Russian Federation."

Sanctions, declining oil prices, a plunging ruble, rising military expenses, and increasing internal discord will weaken the hold of Russia's central government over the world's largest country. Russia will not officially split into multiple countries, but Moscow's power may loosen to the point that Russia will effectively become a string of semi-autonomous regions that might not even get along with one another.

"We expect Moscow's authority to weaken substantially, leading to the formal and informal fragmentation of Russia" the report states, adding, "It is unlikely that the Russian Federation will survive in its current form."

... and the US will have to use its military to secure the country's nukes.

A deactivated Soviet-era SS-4 medium-range nuclear-capable ballistic missile.

Russia's nuclear-weapons infrastructure is spread across a vast geographic area. If the political disintegration Stratfor predicts ever happens, it means that weapons, uranium stocks, and delivery systems could end up exposed in what will suddenly become the world's most dangerous power vacuum.

The breakout of Russia's nuclear weapons stockpile will be "the greatest crisis of the next decade," according to Stratfor.

And the US will have to figure out what to do about it, even if it means dispatching ground troops to secure loose weapons, materials, and delivery systems.

"Washington is the only power able to address the issue, but it will not be able to seize control of the vast numbers of sites militarily and guarantee that no missile is fired in the process," the Decade Forecast states. "The United States will either have to invent a military solution that is difficult to conceive of now, accept the threat of rogue launches, or try to create a stable and economically viable government in the regions involved to neutralize the missiles over time."

Interesting to note that Stratfor stated this prediction would occur in a ten year window, so I don't know if the scenario is accelerating or if their estimate is counting this kind of event as a precursor to the actual event.
I hope thr Russian government collapses. Fuck them...Putin is ex KGB.....In my opinion, he is a tyrant. If he could reverse history, he'd reinstate the old Soviet Union.
At least he would nationalize every business in the country. Starting with the oil industry. Which BTW, Putin in a round about way tried to do when his government jailed Mikhail Khodorkovsky president of the Yukos oil company.
Putin saw Khodorkovsky as a political enemy and sought to silence him. He was imprisoned on a bogus charge. Meanwhile the Russian government went on to bury Yukos and cause the value of the company share value to collapse.
The idea was to nationalize the company.
Putin is a hard line socialist. He is a hyper hawk who would like nothing better than to use military action to attack his enemies. The US is number one on his list.

So we are annoyed with Obama for letting Putin walk all over everyone and somehow we love Putin.

Got to love progressive "logic"

WRONG!!!

The right has always hated commies. It's the left that just loved the Russian leaders until Putin made Obama look like a wussy.

Get your facts straight. Just because we acknowledge that Putin is getting the best of Obama doesn't mean we like Putin. It means that we wish we had a leader who was tougher and willing to do what is best for America. It's disgusting that Obama is selling us out while a fucking commie does as he pleases. Why don't you admit that you like seeing a commie advance, along with the radical Muslims.

Well the op creates some interesting situations.

I guess the op is thinking like Obama that Russia is going to collapse under its own weight. Low oil, prices, foreign adventurism, and a commodity economy should spell doom for Russia, but Russians have traditionally suffered under oppression whether czars or stalins. They can handle a lot especially if someone is restoring the greatness of the motherland. Russians are not like Americans. They don't complain about micro aggressions or take mikes away from Putins cronies. They will suffer and exist on the delicacy of their leader besting and embarrassing the black American president. But Putin has already moved on. He knows he has two aces up his sleeve. One he controls the heat for Western Europe this winter and the next is that someday oil prices will go up. He is also allying with China where he will run pipelines to move oil and gas to the Chinese, giving them a huge strategic advantage from having to buy oil by ship. Iran will join these two and increase the oil leverage. Iran and Russia will ally to replace Saudi domination in the oil market, through terrorism, proxy, and brute force. Egypt will find the Russian presence stark but more dependable than US relations, and the Russians won't care how brutal the regime is. the dominos will fall. Russia, along with Brazil, China, and others are trying to unpeg the price of oil from, the American dollar. Led by Russia this will happen. When it does the economy of Russia will rebound. And the economy of the U.S. Will go into free fall.It may take five or ten years but this is the scenario.

The plot envisioned by Stratford is really one of anarchy. Russia will, devolve to a post civilization society and nukes will be for sale on the open market to the highest bidder. The potential for horrific civilian casualties from a terrorist incident will multiply exponentially. The potential for blackmail will increase exponentially. The degree of difficulty in doing intelligence work will increase exponentially. When they have nothing they will have nothing to lose.

Liberals don't seem to have an ability to see into the future. They are amazed when forecasts by rightwingnuts come true as they have during obamas term. There are consequences to elections, and in this case it will be to break the u steady peace the world has lived by the last years. Obama has broken unspoken agreements, emboldened our enemies and dismayed our allies. His failure to have any kind of grasp of history is going to be our downfall. He has opened a Pandora's box.
