Republicans push bill that would not allow new mothers to get birth certificates if single

the left has no freaking morals that they would use something as trashy as this for their dirty politics. they really could give a crap about women or children, they just want them around so they can use them

What exactly is unreasonable about the father being identified?

As for equal protection, it's fairly obvious who the mother is, why would you need to force her to prove who the mother is?

Is this the most optimal way to identify fathers? Not sure. I'd have to actually read the bill to make an opinion on it.

Yeah but the point is, if the father is not identified, they child doesn't get a birth certificate. How is that fair to the child?

That proposed bill is nonsense.

The mother is the guarantee the child will be taken care of.

End of story.
Naming the father "just in case" the child needs funding that the mother cannot provide. Why would anyone be against the man taking responsibility for his actions?

The problem that I foresee is putting just any man on that birth certificate then some guy that is not the father being screwed.

‘…provides that if the unmarried mother cannot or refuses to name the child’s father, either a father must be conclusively established by DNA evidence or, within 30 days after birth, another family member who will financially provide for the child must be named, in court, on the birth certificate.’
‘Provides that absent DNA evidence or a family member’s name, a birth certificate will not be issued and the mother will be ineligible for financial aid from the State for support of the child.’

This is ridiculous, unwarranted, and un-Constitutional (Weber v. Aetna Cas. & Sur. Co), yet another example of conservative authoritarianism seeking to compel conformity through force of law, and the bane of the social right.

So much for 'small government' republicans.
