The Republicans have no issues to run on, so they have to make the election about Obama. He's a muslim! He's friend of terrorists! Today the talking point is, He's a socialist! The problem is Obama is none of these things. Obama is a Christian. He is not a friend of terrorists and he is not a socialist. In addition Obama has more governmental experience(10 years) than all but 20 of our presidents, and he is intelligent, charismatic, and well spoken. So what do the Republicans do? They use lies, falsehoods, and inuendo in the hope that the electorate is just dumb enough to believe them.

How strange. I haven't heard McCain say any of those things.

In fact, most of those talking posts came from Hillary's campaign.

Go figure.

yes, go figure! Sounds like this thread is Chris' assigned talking point dosen't it?

Oh, please.

These lies are the very heart of his campaign.

McCain says that shit every day...why, does it shame you that he does?

Actually, no it doesn't shame me, and he is a socialist. I read something into the original post that wasnt' there. I think I might have been looking at a different post on my second monitor and responded here.

Anyway. He's a socialist.

Wrong.

Socialism is control of the means of production by the government.

The Republican strategy is the same one that Bush used to win South Carolina in 2000 by claiming that McCain had fathered a black baby. The reason McCain's strategy is the same is that he has Karl Rove clones running his campaign.

Will it work?

I hope not.

While you just casually skip over the part about the unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done

Please....

These are just bogus claims by a desperate campaign. It's sad really how far McCain has fallen from the man he used to be.

I think that this post accurately sums up why this message board has become so pathetic lately. This sort of hyped-up tripe serves no purpose other than to make the poster feel better about themselves by spouting half-truths, misrepresentations, and/or outright lies. It is becoming way too common here...which is why discourse has gone downhill.

McCain's campaign have never stated that Obama is Muslim. They have spoken out against this rumor. Obama did attend a school as a child where he was registered as Muslim, not surprising considering his step-father was a Muslim, but hardly cause for concern. Those who choose to vote for or against Obama because of this are either uneducated or afraid...no better or worse than those voting for Obama specifically because he is black, with no understanding of the issues. In every campaign, extremists of both sides try to paint the opposing candidate with over-the-top negatives...only the most partisan try to portray those extremists as indicative of all supporters.

Obama has had relationships with several questionable individuals. Including one who proudly admits his role in domestic terrorism. If you do not find this troubling, thats fine. But to some, it is an issue. Since we do not, in this nation, put limits on what issues a person is allowed to vote on - I don't see why people are so outraged that some other voter might find Obama's choice of associations to be a consideration. People are voting for Obama because he's black, because McCain's old, because Palin is a woman, because they only care about abortion, because they like how cool he is...we can not stop people for voting for reasons we disagree with...so why spend so much time worrying about people who are concerned about Obama's friends and/or associates? Its as legitimate as voting for Obama because he seems "the most like me." and we all know people do that all the time - it is hardly an "Evil Republican" trait alone.

As far as the socialist claim goes - Obama brought that on himself. "Spreading the wealth around is a good thing." Raised a lot of eyebrows well before McCain brought it up at the debate. Many in this nation get nervous at the notion of government taking away from them and giving to those who did not earn the handouts they were given. Obama could put these concerns to rest by simply explaining what he meant...instead, he and his friends in the media have taken to attacking an ordinary individual for having the audacity to ask the candidate a question. This concerns people even more - ask Obama a question - risk having your entire life dug through by the media..."Joe the Plumber" asked a question...and not even a particularly difficult one...and Obama gaffed it. Rather than laughing and saying, "I understand how my answer may have concerned some people...let me clarify..." he instead mocked and ridiculed an average american..and allowed the media to camp out on the guy's lawn and attempt to destroy him...all for asking a rather basic question. This concerns people. It may not concern you...but for some - it smacks of a candidate trying a bit too hard to cover up a gaffe...

The bottom line is...we are all allowed to vote for whoever we choose, based on whatever criteron we find important. When I was in college, I voted in an election based solely on who the pro-choice candidate was. Nothing else mattered to me except making sure that the candidate was pro-choice. Looking back, I'm embarrassed at my lack of interest/caring on issues that I feel truly matter - but I was just as entitled to vote at 19 as I am now at 29.

We can engage each other about those issues...challenge each other to explain why we find those issues important. You can ask people why they feel Obama's associations matter when you don't. Or, with 2 weeks left to go, maybe we're just getting too tired...we can do what Chris has chosen to do...and just add useless blather to the board.

They're taking shit that Hillary's campaign smeared Obama with, and attributing it to the Republicans.

It's pathetic, and you're right, it's why the board is going downhill.

Thank you for proving my point.

When and how to get out of Iraq is an issue.

How to achieve American energy independence is an issue.

How to provide affordable healthcare for Americans is an issue.

How to fix the economy is an issue.

Whether Obama was on a Republican sponsored education board is not an issue.

No. he calls himself a Christian. A real Christian would not let politics get in the way of his Christian beliefs.

I'm no hardcore fanatic..but

A moral atheist is more a Christian than a hypocritical self-proclaimed Christian

same goes with every self proclaimed religious person

Your point was that people like you have resorted to throwing insults and speaking in half-truths rather than engaging people in civil conversation? Hmm, I guess you were "proving" by acting the part?

I agree wholeheartedly. These are issues of major importance to me, and obviously to you. I think that we could agree further they we both feel these issues SHOULD be of major importance to ALL voters.

That doesn't mean they are. Nor does it mean that any other issue a person feels is important has no value.

Whether Obama was on a Republican sponsored education board is not an issue.

It is if the voter in question feels that it is. You may not agree that it is a factor for you as you determine who to vote for, but luckily for the rest of us...what YOU think are the ONLY issues, AREN'T the only issues the rest of us are allowed to consider.
