record catfish caught in Mississippi

I am not big on fishing but this was interesting. I love catfish

but this one is / was probably tough as hell considering how big...

There are catfish that might weigh close to 1000 pounds in the Missouri reservoirs.

They sit at the outflow and hoover up anything that comes close.

They don't have to move.

uh... this article says 104 is the record weight, not 1000 lbs

That's the weight for one caught on a line. And even that is only true in the US. There was a Mekong catfish caught a few years back that was over 600 pounds.

no photo?

:(

This is a random one from the net..

Gives you an idea though...

Do people eat the huge ones?

?
This one was cut up in pieces and sold to be eaten.

according to that site, the catfish was cut up and sold to be eaten AFTER it died!

yuck...

A trotline doesn't count for a record fish. A trotline is a series of baited hooks that you string out with solid anchors to a freaking tree and recover the next day. You might as well use dynamite or find one washed up on shore.

The huge ones eat people. :omg:

Couldn't be worse than black bass. :puke:
I don't know anything about black bass.

I don't fish. I was told that I needed to sit still and be quiet.

Contrary to popular belief, it was the sitting still that was the issue.
