I was quite surprised to see this. I don't know that the sentence is too light in the abstract (the prosecutors offered Ravi a deal that involved no jail time at all) but it doesn't seem to respect the jury's verdict very much. The prosecution is planning to appeal, but I don't know what grounds a superior court would have to overturn the sentence.

Considering the crime (gross invasion of privacy) a light jail sentence seems appropriate. Many years in jail would have been over the top. The punishment has to bear some relation to the actual crime.
