Raising Taxes on Beverages Would Cost New York Citizens Millions

:rolleyes:Taxing sugary beverages is for our own good! Has nothing to do with money, they worry about us is all.

The Romans taxed the size of your window at the end. Taxed the amount of sunshine that entered your home during the day.

Like giving Them ideas is constructive? LOL! Don't encourage Them! LOL!

Gov. Paterson is at it again! He just proposed a new 12-cent per can tax on sugar sweetened beverages. That’s an extra $1.44 on a 12-pack! And it’s 10 times more per 12-pack than the current state tax on alcoholic beverages like beer! We need to send a strong message that this is not the time to add a tax on the backs of hard-working New Yorkers. This is not the time to put thousands of good-paying beverage industry jobs at risk.

We need your help today. Fill in the form below to send a message to your state legislator. Tell them you are a hard-working New Yorker that is fed up with taxes!

Right just raise the tax about 300% on alcoholic beverages and leave my Mt. Dew alone.

The fall of the great Roman empire

The decline of the Roman Empire refers to both the gradual disintegration of the economy of Rome and the barbarian invasions that were its final doom.

It's become pretty clear that if you vote for Democrats it really doesn't matter what they said during the campaign.....they're still gonna tax you into oblivion. They need all of that cash for bribes....hookers.....and to pay for union benefits.

Was this Frieden's idea? NY's health nazi may be making policy for the whole nation soon.

Washington - — New York City Health Commissioner Thomas Frieden, known for his aggressive and sometimes controversial efforts to limit smoking and consumption of trans fats in the nation's largest metropolis, has been chosen by President Obama to direct the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the White House said Friday.

Poll: Sugar tax is a sweet idea55% Percentage of voters who say the mayor is “about right” to take a hand in what people eat. Twenty percent think he goes “too far.”
Go ahead and tax sugary soft drinks New York voters say, according to a Quinnipiac poll released Thursday.

The survey found 76 percent supported the plan pushed by Gov. David Paterson and backed by Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Overall the poll was a resounding show of support for the mayor’s public health initiatives from calling for less salt in restaurants (77 percent approve) to making chains post menu items’ calorie counts (84 percent said they like it).

The city’s Independent Budget Office has estimated that slapping a half-cent per ounce tax on sugary drinks would bring $222 million into city coffers.

Upstate Coca-Cola Workers to Rally Against 'Sugar Tax'

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP/ 1010 WINS) -- Coca-Cola workers in Syracuse plan to rally against Governor Paterson's proposed "sugar tax'' today.

The beverage industry and a coalition called New Yorkers Against Unfair Taxes say proposed tax hikes on fruit drinks and soda could cost the state 6,000 jobs. They plan a rally this afternoon at the Coke bottling plant in Syracuse.

Meanwhile, state Health Commissioner Richard Daines criticized a new Quinnipiac Poll about the proposed tax. The poll asked if people would support the so-called "obesity tax'' or "fat tax'' and found that 57 percent were against it and 40 percent were for it.

Daines said in another poll, by Kiley and Company, 600 likely voters were asked if they would support a tax on sugary drinks if it came down to a choice between that and reducing Medicaid funding. He said 76 percent said yes.

Daines said in polling, it's all in how you ask the question.

Let's delve into the minds of liberal politicians.

They need money pay for their entitlement programs and pay their benefactors for supporting them.

They wanted to figure out a way of taxing us without it looking like it was an imposition.

So they figured out where they were going to tax us and they figured out a way of making it seem like a crisis.

Raising taxes on sugary drinks is only to keep you from being fat.
Raising taxes on gas is only to keep you from driving too much thus saving the planet.
Raising taxes on cigarettes will keep you from smoking and cut back on medical expenses.
Raising taxes on booze will keep you from getting drunk and do the same.
Raising taxes on consumer goods will force you to cut back.

We're in a state of crisis constantly with these people. They spent the economy into the shitter and now they have to tax us out of it. And 30% of you feel this is cool. They use taxes to control our lives and the net effect is lost jobs and a stagnant economy.

Keep voting for them and it will only get worse.

The general idea is to tax people who won't vote for them.

Poor people usually don't vote, and most people that like soda and not health nuts, so.......

They vote for them, then they themselves moves to a red state and start the process over forgetting why they moved in the first place.
