Some good perspectives on the presidential race from a woman journalist.

What If?

Voting for Obama because he's a black man may be defensible for all those reasons. He is also capable of inspiring hope and unity, no small things, and seems to take a thoughtful approach to issues. But would a white Obama -- and the most liberal member of the Senate, according to National Journal -- be acceptable as the leader of the free world?

If Hillary Clinton were a man, she probably wouldn't be running for office because she wouldn't have been married to Bill Clinton, which means she probably also wouldn't be a U.S. senator. It's almost impossible to separate Hillary Clinton's candidacy from her marital status and thus her gender.

A female John McCain also probably wouldn't be running for office, because most 71-year-old women have better things to do. And, let's face it, at no time in these United States would a 71-year-old woman be elected to the presidency. We simply have a different standard for women than for men when it comes to age.

Finally, Romney as a black woman Baptist would be the ideal candidate. She'd kill both birds -- race and gender -- for all time, and her religion would be a nonissue.

No offense Adam's... but " Race/Gender/Age/Religion" is nothing more than a catchy phrase designed to sell newspapers... constructed from whole cloth by newspapers and news stations to interject a non-existent issue into the campaign.

They are not, so now what?

Oh, come on, all of those factors have entered into this year's presidential campaign, and I mean no offense to you. There is nothing fabricated by the news media about race, gender, age and religion entering into this year's campaign. It's there in all its glory. Why do you think black people are voting heavily for Obama? Why do you think women are voting for Hillary? Why do you think bigoted Christians voted against Romney? Why do you think some voters are openly expressing their opinion that McCain is too old to occupy the Oval Office?

Tell that to the blacks of South Carolina, who backed a brotha by a wide margin.

Tell that to the Hispanics, who back Clinton 2-to-1 because Obama is black and they don't like the blacks.

Tell that to the whites of New Hampshire, who backed Hillary when they were behind a curtain.
