Former Pres. Bush (41) turned 91 in June and had been confined to a wheelchair because of his Parkinson's disease. He fell at home: the fall broke a vertebrae but there is no spinal damage, thank G-d.

A number of links are describing what has happened:

Former President George H.W. Bush remains hospitalized and in fair condition following his fall Wednesday while at his summer home in Kennebunkport, Maine.

The former President broke his C2 vertebrae in his neck. He was never disoriented and the injury did not result in any neurological problems, his spokesman Jim McGrath said.

"It is a significant injury, but right now the President is in excellent shape, and we would anticipate that he would make a full recovery," Dr. William D'Angelo, his attending physician at Maine Medical Center in Portland, said Thursday. "He is doing great. His spirits are good."

"We are not expecting a long stay," McGrath said, though he added Bush would be treated with a neck brace.

A spokesman for George H.W. Bush's son George W., known as 43 because he was the 43rd President, said he was monitoring the situation from Texas.

"43 is in Dallas. He's been keeping tabs on 41 through this mom. 43 is grateful that 41 is getting such great care in Maine and is on the road to recovery," George W. Bush spokesman Freddy Ford told CNN adding "43 has spoken to 41 and said he sounded strong."

Bush's grandson, George P. Bush, summarized his grandmother's reaction: "Barbara Piece Bush declared: 'A slip and fall is not going to take out a World War II pilot.'"

The former US president, who is 91, sustained the injury during a fall at his family home in Kennebunkport, Maine, on Wednesday.

He was admitted to Maine Medical Center, in Portland, a 30-mile drive from his home, where he remained overnight in stable condition.

Doctor 3-4 Months for George HW Bush s Fracture to Heal - ABC News

Former President George H.W. Bush fractured a bone in his neck when he took a tumble at his oceanside summer home, but he suffered no neurological impairment and the injury will be allowed to heal on its own, which is expected to take three to four months, officials said Thursday.

Bush, at 91 the oldest living former president, remained hospitalized in fair condition a day after he fell at his home in Kennebunkport.

"The plan is to let this injury heal on its own without surgery," according to a statement by his spokesman, Jim McGrath. The statement said the former president, who celebrated his 90th birthday on June 12, 2014, by parachuting out of an airplane, would remain in the hospital to be fitted for a neck brace and for therapy and further evaluation.

"We do not discuss timelines for discharge but do not believe this will be a prolonged recovery period at MMC," the statement said.

The fall left Bush, who suffers from Parkinson's disease and cannot use his legs, with a cracked C2 vertebrae but no spinal damage, his attending physician, William D'Angelo, told reporters at the hospital on Thursday afternoon. He said the injury was not uncommon in older people and that full healing typically took three or four months.

Obama Wishes George H.W. Bush A Speedy Recovery After Fall

Former President George H.W. Bush received a call from President Barack Obama on Thursday wishing him a "speedy recovery," according to a White House pool report, after Bush fell and fractured his neck Wednesday at his Maine home.

"The President extended best wishes on behalf of himself and the First Lady," Principal Deputy White House Press Secretary Eric Schultz told the White House pool.

The former President is our oldest living ex-President, but former President Jimmy Carter (D) was born on October 1, 1924 and is only 6 months younger than Bush. He will also turn 91 this year. And Jimmy Carter is currently the longest living ex-president after his term expired.

This situation is very similar to 2004, where Ronald Reagan was 93 and Gerald R. Ford was 91.

Former Presidents Bush and Carter already belong to a very elite presidents's club, namely, the gentlemen who made it to 90:

John Adams (our second president), died at 90
Herbert Hoover died at 90
And both Ronald Reagan and Gerald Ford died at 93.

That's just 6 of 43 gentlement who have made it to 90 after having served as our President.

Best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery for former Pres. Bush (41).
