Powell lost all credibility when he told the Northern Alliance to hold off on taking Kabul so he could negotiate with "moderate Taliban". Not to mention his insistence on calling a certain terrorist "Chairman Arafat".

Granted his boss was the one of the worst presidents in history, but him lecturing Republicans makes as much sense as Newt Gingrich telling Democrats what to do.

Gen.Powell is one of the brightest Generals and still imo one of the best picks GWB made for his admin.. If the republican party wishes to remain relevant they should heed the warnings of Powell.

If ground ops had continued for one day more, there would have been no Saddam Hussein to screw with. The Shiites would have taken him out in 1991. Because Powell stopped the left hook from crushing the Republican Guard, they were available to brutally crush the Shiite uprising and ensuring that we would have to be back to clean up the mess.

To make matters worse, Powell allowed himself to get played by Cheney and Libby over the WMD issue. That shows a lack of intellect that is telling. I think we have a victim of the Peter Principal here.

I think if the hard line republican think they need to return to the "conservatism" they are claiming, then they should run Rush (Rx) Limbaugh for President.

The only problem I see is how Rush will be able to line up Doctors in all 50 states that will sell him drugs without a prescription. That would be the challenge IMHO.

Seriously I hope, the GOP will take to heart what Powell is saying. If they don't they may be as seriously in trouble as the GM appears to be at this moment.

Besides your good observations regarding Powell, he really isn't in a position to influence partisan Republicans. He's not been conservative and when really wanted by the party to run for office, declined. My guess we'll see him switch parties.
