The Pentagon announced the U.S. military will be helping Ukraine learn how to operate F-16 fighter jets.
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin confirmed Thursday that Ukraine is receiving training for the use of F-16s in aerial combat. However, defense officials cautioned that catching Ukraine up on the aircraft technology will not be a "magic" fix to the war.
"There are no magic weapons," said Army Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

He added, "The Russians have a thousand fourth and fifth-generation fighters, so if you’re going to contest Russia in the air, you’re going to need a substantial amount of fourth and fifth-generation fighters."

Austin told the press that more than simply learning how to use the planes, Ukrainian military personnel will need to learn how to maintain the aircraft and sustain their use with ammunition and supplies.

Austin claimed the U.S. military is already receiving assistance in the initiative from the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Belgium and Poland.

"We expect more countries to join this important initiative," Austin said.

The defense secretary went on to call the initiative "an important example of our long-term commitment to Ukraine security."

The Pentagon's comments mark the culmination of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's so-called "fighter jet coalition" — a push to marshal resources from the nation's allies and build out their air force capabilities.

Clearly, Zelensky is a great war time leader. He reminds me of Churchill during the darkest days of WWII.

They will be trained by the best.

It takes months to train pilots to fly F-16s

But hey, let them do it!:04:

Austin and Milley pretending to lead the way again, when it was Denmark and the Netherlands that put it all together and we were last on board as always.

The "thousand 4th and 5th generation fighters" is bullshit too. Russia began the war with about 350 modern fighters- Su-35's and Su-30SM's. And no 5th generation fighters unless you want to pretend the Su-57 is something. Milley knows better.

It is understandable that this decision will have impact only in a middle-term perspective. The terms needed for delivery and training mean these jets can't be used in the planned counter-offensive, if it ever happens, or anytime soon.

It is more about strengthening the AFU capabilities in the future. So, they won't be a game changer in this phase of the conflict.

Just theatre . Anything to try and convince the Sheeple that Russia has not outsmarted the US proxy force in every aspect of modern warfare over the last 15 months . If Turkey and Egypt severely limit their contribution , will the few planes that finally appear last more than a few weeks ? No .

4 months according to the US air force, so by October they could enter the battle.

According to the US Airforce, it will take 4 months to train Ukrainian pilots, so these planes could be lighting up Russian troops in the field and destroying Russian supply lines by October.

Already exF16 pilots are saying that they would not want to fly over Ukraine as they have no chance against Russian air defence systems . An air meat grinder .

Silly stuff. The Ukrainian pilots will use standoff missiles just as Russian pilots do to avoid Ukraine's excellent air defenses.

Maybe. The time will show.

In four months one barely can teach an American pilot John Smith to say "Ya gidni Ukrainskiy pilot Jan Smitana z 404 povitryanogo polku, osobistiy nomer A-12345. Ya ne razmovlyayu Rossiyskoyu."

Lindsey Graham and his ideas of genocide on the basis of nationality perfectly characterize the United States.
And some naïve people have been scolding them for supporting the Kiev Nazis.
Flesh and blood
