CNSNews.com - Pelosi Won't Give Public a Week to Review Text of Health-Care Bill Before House Votes on It

(CNSNews.com) - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D.-Calif.) will not give the public a week to review the final text of a health-care reform bill before it is voted on later this year.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D.-Nev.) has also declined to commit to giving the public a week to read and consider the final health-care bill.

At her press briefing on Thursday, Pelosi was asked whether the health-care bill would be handled differently than the stimulus bill, which came up in February. The 1,071-page final text of that bill was posted on the House Appropriations Committee’s Web site late on a Thursday night and then voted on the next day.

“When the stimulus bill came out earlier this year, members and citizens had less than two days to review the final version that came out of the conference committee before it was voted on,” CNSNews.com asked Pelosi on Thursday. “Will you commit to giving Americans at least a week to review the full conference version of the health care bill before it is voted on? And also will you commit to submitting the final version to the CBO [Congressional Budget Office] so that they can report the cost to the public?”

Listen to the people? Who do you think we are? The rabble is so uninformed that me must do all the thinking for them. They need to have no say in this, as we are the master and they are the servants.

Its disgusting that Congress gets these huge bills and isn't given enough time to even read them.

It was disgusting when the Republican-majority Congress did it, and it's equally disgusting when the Dems do it.

What they're really doing that evil is not giving the public time to respond to it, ya know.

We've waited decades for a comprehensive HC reform bill, we can wait another three months if necessary.

'Most transparent government ever'

Somehow I don't think that is working out as expected...

Right now the health care bill has many tentacles (5 versions), and it's no way ready for any kind of floor vote in the 3 weeks remaining in July before the August recess.

As for transparency, there's more of it now than ever before if anyone just wants to take the time to look at the myriad websites. This one got up and running yesterday.

Ironically, even according to your posted article, Pelosi didn't answer the above question. So why do you just assume she said no? Nevermind. I know why.

Why? Because they know it sucks! That's why! It just sucks.

Did the GOP give anything to the public, or to Democrats for that matter?

They gave us a shiney new recession, and two land wars in Asia, didn't they?

But the recession is not so new and shiny anymore, and I think most of us are getting tired of those land wars, too.

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.

Reading comprehension - The ability to provide accurate responses regarding questions concerning written language. Reading comprehension is dependent accurate reading ability, reasoning skills, attention and memory.

So tell me again when congress be they democrat or republican who present bills and vote on them without reading them, that not only effect our lives but those of our children and grandchildren are faithfully discharging the office they are about to enter? This tactic, and I don't care which party is doing it shows a COMPLETE lack of respect for the dignity of the office and the people they represent. By not even taking the time to read a bill of such far reaching implications is dishonorable show of contempt on the part of any congressman for the office in which they hold..
