I saw it last night. Very good movie. Robert Oppenheimer was an interesting character. Seeing the movie made me want to learn more about “the father of the atomic bomb”. The movie paints the picture of how powerful politicians distanced themselves from the scientist and ultimately revoked his security clearance after the war. Oppenheimer was against building the hydrogen bomb, but he lost that battle. Bombing Nagasaki and Hiroshima haunted heavily haunted him.

The amount of spying that occured around them rivals what the Canadian apparatus does to citizens here. Much was at risk.and the Russians still stole it (though the CIA stole the Russians early model which most people dont know).

Did it feel like the movie was too long? It's three hours, which is a long time to watch a movie unless it is really good.

Now you should see the Barbie movie and you can tell people "I've seen Barbenheimer"

Did not tell you how Dulles got them the Uranium from the Germans in order to help them explode the first US atom bomb after the first two successful German tests . Well , well , well .

Saw it this evening and I didn't think it was to long, but then I could watch Cillian Murphy endlessly. Great movie!!!

A Movie, but a million miles from the truth . See Post 5 for a hint of that .The Manhattan project was an absolute minimum 6 months behind schedule .How on earth was that solved?Who by , and how ?

I saw it the other day. Very good movie and the three hours didn't seem that long. And there was more to the story than told/shown.

5 Things to Read If You’re Watching ‘Oppenheimer’ This Weekend

A Manhattan Project explainer, the true story of J. Robert Oppenheimer’s life, and more.

Link contains links to other articles. Actually six listed.
One is from the frackin' "Atlantic" which limits 'free articles'. Be fore warned on using your ration.

Considering all the subtleties of the subject and how rarely Hollywood treats such things well, this film did a truly great job.

The "full" story would likely result in a six hour movie rather than a three hour one.
Considering how much there is to tell and the need to be consice for audience endurance sake, this film was well done.

Critical Mass: How Nazi Germany Surrendered Enriched Uranium for the United States’ Atomic Bomb

...
On May 19, 1945, eleven days after the surrender of Nazi Germany in Europe, a U-boat was escorted into Portsmouth Naval Yard, New Hampshire. News reporters covering the surrender of U-234 were ordered, contrary to all previous and later U-boat surrender procedures, to keep their distance from crew members and passengers of U-234, on threat of being shot by the attending Marine guards. Why the tight security? Buried in the nose of the specially-built mammoth boat, sealed in cylinders “lined with gold,” was 1,120 pounds of enriched uranium labeled “U235”the fissile material from which atom bombs are made. Critical Mass documents how these Nazi bomb components were then used by the Manhattan Project to complete both the uranium bomb dropped on Hiroshima and the plutonium bomb dropped on Nagasaki, to defeat the Japanese and win World War Two and global domination in the modern age.

Problem with the above is that more sources claim it was uranium oxide, not enriched uranium. Of course that doesn't mean it wasn't run through USA enrichment process and used on the first bombs.

The Type X U-boats were designed to be minelayers, but most were converted to cargo carriers. Six of the eight built were lost during the war.

So on the list of the 250 greatest films, Oppenheimer is listed at #24. Crazy.

The imdb membership who votes on the top 250 films is mostly people who currently work in the industry. There are only 3 entries in the top 10 of the imdb 250 that match the AFI 100 top 10. Most of the top rated imdb films are more modern films.

I won't go see it unless it gets the stamp of approval from the Critical Drinker. The best movie critic in the business.

I saw Oppenheimer Thursday. I am very well versed on that era, and my wife was laughing her ass off every time I got excited when another famous scientist entered the movie. Then when Klaus Fuchs showed up, I growled. I did not tell her why. All was revealed later.

An incredibly well done movie. The surrealism the director chose to apply to various scenes was brilliant.

Using Cillian Murphy to play Oppenheimer was the perfect choice.

A great cast altogether.
