Inside your head.
not just thousands but 10s of thousands US citizens every year !! yes we need stronger border enforcement !!yes we need a barrier [wall] ! will these things stop all drug trafficking ? no ! but will it knock a dent in it ?? of course it will ! but the left does not want that ! under the false guise of compassion [yeah right ] for illegals [votes] they would rather see Americans die than do anything about it !

I agree, it won't stop everything...but you have to attack it from many angles--as in other complicated problems

The wall in and of itself will do nothing for the opiate crisis. Why? Because it's the doctors that get people hooked on them, and then, when their script runs out, they switch over to heroin (which is imported).

Why opioids are such an American problem

American doctors prescribe - a lot
Unlike most European countries, the US does not have universal healthcare paid for by taxes.

Instead, Americans must get their own insurance - usually via an employer or the government.

"Most insurance, especially for poor people, won't pay for anything but a pill," says Professor Judith Feinberg from the West Virginia University School of Medicine.

"Say you have a patient that's 45 years old. They have lower back pain, you examine them, they have a muscle spasm.

"Really the best thing is physical therapy, but no one will pay for that. So doctors get very ready to pull out the prescription pad.

"Even if the insurance covers physical therapy, you probably need prior authorisation (from the insurer) - which is a lot of time and paperwork."

The CDC says opioid prescriptions have fallen by 18% from their peak in 2010. But the total is still three times higher than in 1999.

In America, 250,000 people die every year from medical mistakes ... making it the third leading cause of death after Cancer and Heart Disease.

I'm not sure what effect a wall will have on over-worked, under-paid medical workers ... unless it keeps out foreign med students.

Of course, that's somewhat misleading, as many of those people were being treated to prevent their deaths...

Doctors like to prescribe them because big Pharma gives them all sorts of goodies and money to push their pills. THAT was the true start of the opiate crisis.

I'm not talking about treatments that have failed. I'm talking about actual medical mistakes such as improper dosages, wrong drugs being prescribed or administered, Actual frak ups on the part of doctors and nurses that kill patients.

All you guys who are blaming this on doctors instead of the cartels are just making sure that patients who need pain meds will not get them, be careful what you wish for!

so are you saying that drugs smuggled across the border are not killing thousands of Americans ?

Americans are pussies when it comes to physical pain. Paper cut needs an aspirin. A poorly caught ball needs morphine. A simple fall on the tennis court requires opium for three months.
People need to regulate their intake of pain meds. Maybe i am an exception because my folks beat me as a child and I got to where i could look at them beating me and say when is it going to hurt!

The smuggled dope is not killing cause it is too reduced in strength.

The leftist brigades don't care...........They would rather make them legal and tax them..........Regardless of the blood shed over the crap both there and here.

A drug overdose is a voluntary act. Self-administered euthanasia.
