The State Dept has been advising people to leave Afghanistan as soon as possible in June.

And that’s after telling people not to travel there in the first place since it has a level 4 travel advisory.

He already extended the deadline from May to September because he had too much on his plate.

This is how the USA has procrastinated about leaving Afghanistan for 20 years. There was never going to be a good time to leave. The Taliban were always going to take over when you left. And it was never going to be pretty when it all went down.

What wasn't predicted was the utter collapse of the Afghan Army and the ability of the Taliban to retake the country without firing a shot. That alone tells you what an abject failure the past 20 years have been. That the entire country would simply surrender to the Taliban without firing a shot.

WHy September? thats summer which makes it extremely easy for the Taliban to mobilize. All these exit dates are arbitrary and we should never tip our hand entirely to people like the Taliban.
January or February would have been a much better date but there again, Biden is more worried about optics instead of whats going to work on the ground. Hell, whats a few deaths of worthless afghans to you people right? We did make promises... we needed to keep good on our promises
and get interpreters and their families out. Kind of hard to do without an accessible airport. It was never going to be pretty because Biden coordinated with no one.... just ask our allies, the British and French who have been struggling to extract their people

Procrastinated? No, the last 20 years has helped to weaken and marginalize Alqueda. Despite what Biden says about Alqueda setting shop in North Africa.... they will now have an entire country to operate in where we will have about zero intelligence on them.

I don't want war with that part of the world and a great way to have ensured that would have been to leave that small force in Afghanistan along with other allies of ours. We will now be seeing more terrorist activity and more chance of a large war in the future.

We can see many Afghans do have the will to resist. In the north two districts have been taken back and throught Kabul.. unarmed civilians are risking being shot or captured by taking down taliban flags and flying the Afghan one.

The way I see it they did need more time. Most of the Afghan army is probably illiterate or grossly under educated.... probably more so than in most M.E. countries. Education can take effect but probably 20 years was not enough. To bad the women of Afghanistan were not the ones trained to fight....because they are the ones who had gained the most and now stand the most to lose. They will go back to being like dogs and cows for their taliban
